12v socket in boot.

Featured Replies

Hi,

Does anyone know if the wiring is present in the boot for the 12v socket.

My fabia doesn't have one but it would be a useful addition.

Thank you.

You know what, I was not even sure if I had one, so just went outside to have a look........................computer says NO......

Is it only in Estates I wonder ??

Now I'm interested to see if the wiring is there on mine, I think it might be, but will certainly know soon enough, if it is I will add one to.

I will also have a look, if the wiring is present I shall be fitting a Hella socket instead of the cig lighter style as they are more secure connection and change the plug on my coolbox so disconnection is less likely.

Ideally converting to ignition feed too.

I'd think, as these 12V outlets can handle "decent" current, that proper sized wiring would need to exist - and no VW Group marque is going to throw in that sort of extra wiring without it is being used - and paid for.

I think about fitting one to my wife's 2015 6C Polo now and again - I think that I bought a suitable socket, but that is as far as I've gone, I'd be running a quite beefy 12V cable the length of the car for that job, after finding out what the existing front one is rated for current wise.

The OEM wiring (Red/Yellow wire) is 1.5 mm sq  from the same fuse (#47 15amp) as the ciggy lighter

I think so.

The main idea of using a Hella socket is that with being in the boot it is unseen while traveling and moving luggage could easily disconnect a cigar plug and stop the coolbox working.

Hi, just seen this. We have a socket in the boot of our 2008 Fabia Greenline estate, handy for plugging in tyre inflator as for some reason will only work in boot plug not front plug.

could be the actual socket is faulty, they do fail.

have you got anything else like a mobile or sat nav charger to check if they work in front socket  ?

Also could the plug have dropped off the front socket? ,

Try removing the screw under the rubber in the rear cup holder, removing the small square storage box and reaching underneath, as completely removing the centre console is a pain.

Thanks for the suggestions. Other stuff works fine in the plugs.

It's the same in our other car, won't work in the cig plug. We've only had the Fabia a yr and the boot socket looks unused . I've bodged up a female socket with crocodile clips to run off the battery which seems to get the temperamental sod working. Looks like it's the original one that came with car.

Yeah, the boot sockets only came with the estate variants.

I have thought of wiring u[ one in the boot but never did. I would assume you could piggy-back off the boot light cables but its up to you! I have LED bulbs fitted internally so that may be helpful as they will drain less, leaving the charger socket to do its dirty worse!

Could also piggy back off the centre console socket, run cable under the carpet, under the rear seat and then into the boot. Up inside the plastic boot trim and make a nice hole for the unit to fix in to.
