What voltage should alternator deliver

Do I understood this correct that even if charger is connect to plus terminal and the minus end to chassis than the car computer will control charging and will never charge battery fully but as it is preconfigured from factory to whatever? 
let say 60- 80 percent??

I can't comment on the amps, but I've always seen the following on my car when VCDS has been monitoring;

 

* engine off - 12.7v ish

* engine on and idling on the path - 13.7v ish 

* engine on, in gear and coming to a stop - 14.5v ish

No the charger will charge the battery to 100% which is sort of counter intuitive as when you start using the car it will immediately start to let the battery discharge to 80% so it then has room for peak charging during engine braking.

 

It is only useful to charge to 100% if you plan on not using the car for a week or so.

the charger is at least connected as the user manual told connection setup.

sometime engine idling is lower as the battery voltage ish 12.2 to 12.6. I suppose battery is full and is discharging. Because voltage get higher after a while on idle too at 13.2.

Hello Dreamlearn, I just do the same thing than you on my 5E5 1.6 TDI 115 facelift SS. 

I bought an AGM battery to Auto5 (Norauto), switch the battery technology to fleece in the CAN Gateway 19 adaptation (I do not have the battery regulation on my VCDS) and change the serial but first, the store said that the voltage on idle was too low (12,7v) for them to accept to stamp the warranty card. 

I switchback on EFB+, which was the old battery tech, and the idle voltage was 13,2v (with some peak to 14.5v coming to a stop, gear in), but drops to 12.4v when I maintain my speed.
Those values are pretty similar for the fleece battery tech adaptation. 

My battery level was about 79% to 81% and I read here that's normal, as long as it's more to 60%.

 

Can you tell me if all was ok for you ? 

I'll switchback again to fleece battery and I'll keep an eye on the voltage at rest.

With stop/start micro hybrid systems, it's a very good idea to fully charge your lead acid battery 2 or 3 times a year.

 

My reasoning being, that at 75 - 80% charge (in practice it could be significantly lower and unlikely to be much higher) its useful to make sure the battery get fully charged to remove lead sulphate on the plates as much as possible, thus delaying the formation of permanent hard sulphation and tendrites which reduce capacity and life.

 

And whenever the car is stood up for more than 2 weeks. Or had minimal use for any prolonged period. According to measurements on my Superb, standby current

loses between 0.3 to 0.6Ah per day or in round numbers around 1% per day. This doesn't include self discharge which increases with age, depth of discharge and becomes irreversible with prolonged periods of discharge.

 

So if your car is parked up with say 75% charge, after 14 days it'll be down to around 64%. Once you go much below 50% lead acid batteries can deteriorate quickly if not recharged promptly. At 30% you may not even be able to start the car because internal resistance has risen so much.

 

IMO it also helps to reset / recalibrate the on board battery management and the continuing healthy functioning of the stop/start system.

Well i'm back, I do not check the battery voltage since but start/stop works (not the last days but with the hot days we had, AC was always on and very low.

 

So i think its good to switch to fleece mode.

 

I'll coming back to tell if something went wrong

Well, I'm back. No problems. 

If the battery is bad you usually start to get start stop errors even though the engine starts and runs ok.
