MY2020 vRS 245 battery

Featured Replies

Hi.

I did a search but couldn’t find a definitive answer as to what type of battery should be fitted from the factory on the above car. It’s a challenge vRS with the standard spec plus a couple of options such as virtual cockpit and winter pack etc

I was just cleaning under the bonnet the other day and happened to notice it had an EFB battery fitted and not an AGM?

Would I be wrong in assuming that given the spec of the car with heated seats and windscreen etc it should have had an AGM fitted in the factory?

I’ve not had any problems thankfully, but have one of those cigarette lighter chargers with battery voltage on and it sits around 12.3/12.4v when everything is off, and then between 13.0 and 15.0v when running. (15.0v is usually only when braking, but is often about 14.3v when driving along)

Does all the above sound ok?

Thanks.

Skoda normally fit EFB batteries as a cost saving, so having an EFB instead of an AGM battery is expected.

Those voltages sound about right, certainly very similar to what I see.

That’s good to hear that it’s normal.

I haven’t been using the car as much as normal lately obviously but still enough to keep it at a decent level of charge.

Thanks

Yes, a bit cheap isn't it! Moll brand, I know VWAG had a lot of trouble with these a year or two back. Mine seems to sit somewhere between 12.1-12.4. Never any problem starting, but it does mean start stop often won't trigger when sticking to shorter journeys and my dashcam voltage monitor kicks in fairly early when compared to similar usage pattern in other vehicles.

Considering swapping to a decent AGM in the not too distant future.
