Help! Locked Keys in car

Featured Replies

Mines a 2005 anti hijack locked my keys in the boot and I really don’t want to have to break the window, what do you suggest?

Also exactly what window if needs be?

Tough stuff. If you don't have access to another set of keys, a small section of (rather stiff) cable in the form of a hook can be sandwiched between the gaps in the door through the weatherstripping, the hook would work to actuate any door handle. Once you can open the doors you'll need to get the rear bench down to fetch the keys.

Wont it be deadlocked?

It rarely goes totally deadlocked. The mechanical link from the handle to the lock still works. Driver's door is best as it normally unlocks the others as well, and even if it doesn't there's better access from there to unlock the other doors.

I wondered about that, but my grandson managed to sort it. Best to go for a smaller window if needs must rather than rear screen. Otherwise speak to an auto locksmith, compare cost of this with cost of replacing window.

Thanks lads much appreciated. Anyone know which window is easiest to replace by myself? See another like it in the salvage just want to be sure.. I can access the keys from the window

I would go for a rear window. Not the quarterlight! To replace a quarterlight you start off by removing the rear window! A nd expect to be hoovering up glass for hours. It will be everywhere. I found some in the boot. How it got there?

I'd suggest ( as I've done on other posts on this) that even with a deadlocked car, there will be a crash sensor somewhere near the front. I had this problem many years ago on an old Cavalier with deadlock. I'd put keys down in boot, with central locking activated to lock boot automatically and shut boot. AA man had a laugh ,then clipped a battery to a terminal under the front and gave crash sensor a whack. Doors unlocked as they should if in a crash with all doors locked. if not a member of a breakdown ,it might be a cheaper alternative than replacing a window

...along with the seatbelt pretensioners, a full airbag deployment and fuel pump shutoff.

The sensor is contained in the airbag control module in front of the gear lever under the centre console.

Bit more difficult to get to than the old cav, where the sensor was on the door post 😃 Ah  ,well, just a thought.

I have all window cover i resorted to calling a guy

Bit stupid as i done the same thing the next day my advice is to leave a window open somewhere at all times if you have only one key

Ouch!

Edit:- maybe plan on getting another key sorted out as you might even lose this one, then you are really messed up!
