Windscreen Camera Failed + Other bits.

Could be dodgy CAN Gateway. This is the point where the systems controlled by CAN all meet.

Thanks for your input Sasha.

Do they fail very often? Are they covered by warranty?

I have noted that:

CU 01 (Engine) is showing Oil Temperature Sensor outside range, performance, high.

CU 13 (ACC) is showing Databus error value, missing message (Link to camera failure?)

CU 09 (Central Electrics) is showing two faults regarding alarm sensor fault & implausible signal

CU 19 (Gateway) is regularly showing a voltage fault.

CU 42 (Driver Door) is showing Central Door Locking Motors (Open circuit)

CU 5F (Multimedia) is showing Sporadic Disruption.

CU A5 (Driver Asst) is showing 6x camera malfunction.

Are these all different ECUs or all in one? As you can see the cars electronic systems are severely screwed up.

They don’t fail often but will be covered under warranty. I bought my 3Q0 High Gateway for £20 used and they are about £130 new from the dealer. All the modules you see are ECU’s which just means electronic control module, but the CAN Gateway (19) is where all of these systems intersect. If this is faulty it may be the cause of your issues but from that scan it appears that 13 and A5 have connected faults (missing message will be missing because the A5 camera is knackered) and this can be caused by all sorts from a d Gateway to a bad wiring connection or a bad grounding point on the car. Surely VAG will have to accept at this point that the car isn’t fit for purpose and you should be moved into another car or refunded.

Bet they can't find a car to the same specifications. 🙄

Thats a lot of faults for a car of that age, something is very wrong somewhere and they need to resolve it.

Have you written to skoda uk yet? Seems like the dealer really is not putting enough effort in and it needs the master technician on it at the very least. I mean they can't even code a brand new part into the car and they're diagnostics will certainly be capable of guiding them through that.

Don't give the courtesy car back until you've evidence that the dealer has found and fixed all faults.

I have asked them to also deal with the issue with my mobile phone and the infotainment system, as it can take a while to connect the two.

That should be a simple update. But the rest of it they should be quite capable of doing/resolving as a dealership. I have been in contact with Skoda UK customer service on numerous occasions with emails and phone calls, some of which have been quite long and detailed.

I have the courtesy car UFN, they have been told that they are to keep the car until they have fixed it, it's currently in bits in the workshop.

They are all different ECUs.

I tend to agree with Sasha that the CAN Gateway (address 19) is the place to start looking - as this is where all the CAN communications pass through (kinda like a telephone exchange).

Is that a separate piece of hardware or is it just a software thingy?

It’s a piece of hardware, in the drivers foot well, above the pedals. Of course this is pure speculation on my part but it is module that all CAN communication goes through.

I had problems with ODIS and unlocking the canbus when i replaced the speedo. With the replacement 3Q0 i lost cruise, vrs mode, and a few other things. It also has a permanent SOS error. It can be a nightmare to code. I upgraded the stereo and the camera firmware needs sorted.

Kind of ironically, the courtesy car has just thrown up the SOS error and told me to call the workshop.

I just turned the car off for a couple of minutes and it vanished.

Have you sorted the dataset on the 3Q0 yet? I’ve got mine done now, just needed the dataset flashing onto it with ODIS.

I'm wondering what has happened to my car, they've had 6 working days now. I'm taking it as they've still not managed to fix it!

What's the next step, if a dealership can't fix it?

I've just emailed VWFS to see what they say about the vehicle.

Mine came from a bank of scans, so the most recent ODIS equipped laptop that was plugged in had the dataset saved for my Gateway on it.

Will be interestingvto hear what they have to say, or if they even reply at all. We were dealing with a 3 week+ turn around on emails and 1hr wait on the phone when trying to end one of our PCP deals at the beginning, middle and end of April. Still not heard back about a complaint made at the time some six weeks since it was made.

I genuinely hope you can find some peace either with this car or without it. My fuel pump issue combined with whats went in the last few months with skoda has me looking for a VT at the earliest opportunity.

Heres hoping for the best 👍

Thanks.

Somehow I think that trying to dispose of this car maybe like trying to climb a greased fireman's pole. I may well be wrong.

I should have heard back from them yesterday. I put the suggestion to them that the root cause of the problem may well be CU19 the CANBUS gateway, after I mentioned it had been discussed with someone who deals with VW electronics 😉.

I'm starting to wonder if they've found something far more serious than first appeared, like I said they cannot get the car to accept a brand new camera and without it, the car's undriveable.

Why does it keep slamming the emergency brake in? Why does the lock on the driver's door fail intermittently? So on and so forth.

I mean, when the car behaves itself it's superb, a lovely drive.

Just been in contact with the garage and it's waiting for connection and calibration of the camera, the only place they can calibrate it is the MOT bay, which is fully booked until Friday, once there, it'll take 5hrs to complete it and fully test it. And fully check all of the other systems.

TBQH this is taking the pee. I'm wondering if I could be entitled to get some compensation for all of the time off that I have had to take off and loss of earnings (~£900).

Now not expected to get the car back until Monday or later next week.

@TheWandererIf you can get into Skoda UK customer services ribs they will give you something, wont make anything right but it will be some kind of gesture. When a local dealer wasted my time Skoda UK paid for a service for the wife's car and gave me some cash back to cover the fuel and 'courtesy car.

I've got their courtesy car, but I've only got limited amount of floating leave and I don't see why I should have to use that to cover the time that the car is in dock for.

I have to go back to work next week for 3 days, all of which are irritating 1400 starts, so I may be able to pick it up around 1200-1300 Monday or Tuesday, Wednesday is a bit easier with a 1620 start, but I still find this to be a ridiculous situation to be in, with a car that's 16/17 months old.

Cars are complicated things and they go wrong from time to time. What the garage has done is take in your faulty car and given you a replacement car. That is what is called a 'reasonable' response to cause the minimum of inconvenience.  What your personal circumstances are however is not their nor the manufacturer's fault.

The best advice I can give is to accept what the garage say otherwise you'll only end up disappointing yourself. As per the reply from ExSEAT the best you could ever hope for is some goodwill to shut you up, but the garage have no obligation whatsoever to compensate you.
