Peeling chrome on DSG gear knob

Featured Replies

I have raised this question before, but I am suffering with the chrome on the push button part of my DSG gear knob peeling off. It has got worse over time, to the point where I have now had to file the chrome plating off the avoid cuts etc, and I hate the end result

I have checked with Skoda and it seems the replacement knob is £100++'s , Skoda Parts have a listing for the Gearshift lever head for DSG automatic transmission, with cuff (leatherette).at 148,45  incl. VAT .

But, I have found this Chinese web site offering the knob with LED light indicators at

Firstly, has anyone tried this in the past  and secondly does anyone know how to remove the gear knob. Is it easy, if so how do i do it?
Any comments[sensible] welcome.

Just rechecked the site and it appears the knob does not fit my car so another idea hits the dust!

Although I'm not bothered about the lights [and it seems the issue is with the lights], I just want a gear knob that looks half decent

Thanks for that info.

Unfortunately my gear change knob has the push button at the front rather than the side .

However I have sent a request to the company to see if they can help.

Again thanks

Ah almost.

Have you tried a chrome paint on the button? It may not be perfect as new but I suspect that once done and where the button is, it will be hard to tell the difference.

Plenty of chrome paints on amazon but seems the best recommended is krylon or alcad II

Or take a cheap punt on something like this Chrome paint

Sorry to revive an old thread but,

I've finally got round to replacing my gear knob with an LED one from China for £37.

All seems very good, but one observation is that the button doesnt fully "pop" out when in reverse, it retains a mid position.

I'm jow wondering if the original also did this and i never noticed!

Could it be a feature so you can tell you're in R by feel?

Thanks

ps if you decide to do this youself do not press the button without the gear knob on the shaft. I learnt the hard way.

Pictures, or it never happened.
