Coil Packs - vRS

Featured Replies

Ive done a search which has prompted me to do a bit of digging around under my bonnet. I would like some of you to confirm my suspicions if they are correct.

Ive taken the guard off the top of the coil packs to gain access, the black box ontop of cyl no4 & the supporting bracket and have unclipped the connectors to each of the coil packs.

I whipped out coil pack for cyl no 1 as it was the first time I'd done it and have seen that there is a set up alpha numerics shown in the red oval

Am i right in thinking that if this serial number ends in an H or a J if got either old (problematic) coil packs or interim replacement coil packs and that I should get them replaced sooner rather than later.

I kept a couple spares in the boot. one day it started on 3 cylinders, 10 mins later, new one in and back to four. Might as well change them when tey go to get max life out of them - I a bit of a skinflint!! Get a couple now though - you wont be able to drive to the dealers when it does go!!! They're about

IIRC H where the dodgy ones, J were the replacements. My old vRS had a mixture of G and H fitted, now they are nearly all J's. Still has one H fitted, that has not failed for 5 years.

did any ones cars warning lights come on when trouble started or log faults??

as mine didnt which i found strange.

Nope now warning lights have appeared on mine (yet fingers crossed)

That link was extreemly useful thank you DGW, I hadnt found that one.

Hi all

Does this affect all Octavias, or was there a cut off point at which all cars were supplied with the new packs.......my vRS is an 03, is this likely to have been affected or would the dodgy coil issue have been resolved?

Or, do I really need to get my hands dirty and look?

Thanks

Lance
