Hi! Have the chance to take over an Octavia elegance 1,2TS automatic from 2010. Saloon.

only driven 46000km (38000miles).

Are there any ”standard problems” we need to check out? (Heard something about bushes in the steering). Expensive/difficult to fix?

How’s the gearbox? (Heard of problems with dsg that can’t be rectified),

Any other comments on the model?, experiences?

You may be lucky and get a good well fettled one.

Based on my experience (Octavia 2011, Fabia 2013 both 1.2 tsi CBZB/CBZA engines)

CBZB 1.2 tsi engine 2010 - stretched camchain and tensioner issues very common, loud rattles on the 1st cold start of the day indicates possible impending catastrophic failure unless fixed (new chain kit, latest version - engines built after 2012 had revised chains and larger oil capacity)

faulty (non shrouded) ignition leads common for that year (no.3 cylinder lead), can take out ignition coil when they fail, might have already been changed.

Check for broken pcv, should be sitting in rearof cam cover, not hanging down on rubber tube from airbox, will leak some oil from cover if broken off. £16 for a new pcv but read up about it before fitting a new one.

Turbo actuators stick or fail, depending on exact engine serial number would need new actuator (~£240) or new turbo/actuator complete (~£1500+). Failed on our fabia at 100k miles, Octavia is still ok at 140k miles.

Automatic DQ200 box, too many issues to list. Faulty mechatronics unit,  clutch packs, broken gear selector forks. Most faults costing at least £1500 upwards to fix. Not always fixed properly. Look it up, plenty of threads on Briskoda both under Fabia 2 and Octavia 2 sections. Not known what proportion of boxes develop faults but much higher than other auto gearboxes.

Check state of discs and pads. Brakes might need a good stripdown and clean as can be in a bit of a state as rarely serviced properly and start to bind due to corrosion.

Depending on useage, rusty suspension springs break.

Check for leaking shocks.

Check aircon still works.

Check service record.

Check MOT history on gov.uk website.

Oi! Doesn’t sound too promising.....

It’s in Sweden, but our version of MOT is clean all the way........

Dealer serviced 7 times, following the book.

Aircon ok

Need to look at the brakes, shocks & springs in daylight......
