Remap to cure 06 vRS problems

Featured Replies

Can someone recommend a tuner in the Derby/Notts area that could remap an 06 vRS and return it to standard if problems not solved?

I got my 2nd furby in March, its got the stutter, and lumpy tickover, and the trip computer is optimistic on mpg by 30%. In short the car runs as rough as a bears bum! Its been into dealer 3 times now, they say there are 20 odd cars in the UK with the same symptoms and all data is being sent to the factory, nothing more can be done until they develop a fix.

How long do we wait? I'm about to reject the car but there is nothing else out there that I like, so a remap may be the answer.

The car is used for learners so I only want a 'mild' tune with no flashing lights.

Any Suggestions?

Thanks

Mart.

Dealer and get them to kick skoda or Skoda UK

Ford fixed the focus TDCi so skoda can fix this or at least find a remap provider they will cover you with

JBS for Custom Code I think are in Derby area and Jabbasport in Peterborough are highly thought of on this site.

There are links are in the Briskoda Partners

Hi Mart

Any non Skoda approved mod is going to be highly likely to invalidate your warranty and allow them to not fix the car. Also, I found the driving school insurers to be very mod unfriendly. Try and put pressure on Skoda for a fix. What about telling them you are either a) losing business or B) risking injury to your pupils by virtue of unpredictable running. May be worth a punt.

Rejecting the car is a good option if you go for replacement rather than refund. Make sure you test the car before accepting it.

Chris

A remap will be detectable if they really wanted to find it i'm afraid. Better to stick with Skoda and keep the pressure on.

A solution may be if you could find a second ECU from a scrap car and ask someone with VAG-COM to code it to the car for you and give that a try.

Might be worth trying a Dragon tuning box ...that tends to smooth things out ....about

How about asking the dealer to reflash your ECU?

Would stay away froma remap even if its just a turn on it works turn it off thing as it will leave a trace and skoda may not be too happy about it.

If you do want to go down the remap route. Most dealers offer a 30 money back thingy.

Reject and demand another - under UK LAW (forget Skoda's opinion) you are entitled to refund or replacement at YOUR discretion if the item you purchase is not of satisfactory quality and fit for the purpose it is intended.

Take it in and reject it. Simple as.

I'm always saying this stuff on here and nobody ever believes me but the decision is yours, not the dealers!

My brother rejected his Furby vRS at over a year old - it can be done if you put your foot down and know your rights!

TBH a re-map sounds a bit drastic a cure for your problems. In any case it would invalidate any warranty work your engine might need.

As suggested, throw a hissy fit at the dealership.

Agree completely!

Dad and I have our 2006 vRS being delivered in the next week or so. We have read and re-read the comments in the 'stuttering 06 vRS thread'

We are very much looking forward to taking delivery of our car, however:

Should the car suffer from this stuttering and surgeing we'll just reject the vehicle under the Sale of Goods Act. Not to be completely unreasonable we would then offer Skoda UK the chance to supply a replacement vehicle, and thus give them an opportunity to not lose our custom, given the caveat that they provide a loan vRS while a new car is supplied to us.

The other 'refund' option would of course be to demand our money back, and then buy something from another manufacturer.

To add to SteVRs's comment, from what I understand of the problem based upon what I've read on here so far, not only would the car be "not of satisfactory quality and fit for the purpose it is intended" but it has been alleged by some owners that it is also potentially dangerous and could ultimately cause an accident due a 'loss of control' of the vehicle. :thumbdwn:

I also understand there is no 'fix' for the problem yet as the Skoda Engineers are trying to work it out at present. So, accept the problem and you are stuck with it until Skoda develop a fix for it. That of course is your choice to do, also.

If there is a safety issue here due to the potential to cause an accident I cannot understand why the cars are being allowed to be sold within the UK right at the moment? Potentially, a product liability nightmare is looming over Skoda UKs head until the problem is solved (in my humble opinion, of course!).

Has anyone actually reported this problem as a safety issue to trading standards as yet? Or is it not quite as bad as the impression I have got from reading some of the posts?

I'd be very interested to know the answer to the last two questions.

It's not a safety issue, just annoying and uncomfortable, dealer has set things in motion to get replacement car from Skoda, if thats not right they say they'll refund me.

Martin.

Maybe it's not a safety issue then ;)

Ta for the update on things.
