Headgasket help

Featured Replies

Hi so ive had my engine fully rebuilt fresh everything. Took it for its first drive yesterday and after 25 miles driving the car died. I popped the bonnett and there was oil sprayed all over the front of the bay. After checking for a leak only place that was wet was the headgasket l have arp headbolts torqued to correct spec. Coolant tank looks to be mixing with oil, why is this happening when everything is new heads been skimmed?

There are two likely scenarios in your case.

Either the engine has been incorrectly assembled or the head casting is cracked.

Was the head pressure tested when it was being skimmed?

Was the right head gasket installed correctly on a clean block face?

Thanks for that mate. The problem seems to be as the mechanic has installed the arp headbolts hes stripped the thread in the block so its not gone in properly. Is it possible to helicoil the block? Or would i need a new one?. Just cost me 1k plus for a engine rebuild 😒

Yes, helicoil repairs are better than new and will be fine.

Your mechanic is a moron, ARP bolts are permanently reusable.

You should consider helicoiling all the stud holes in the block, if one is stripped they're probably all suspect.

Get a new mechanic who can breath through his nose.
