Error code P023800

Featured Replies

This has something to do with the Turbo load pressure.

Please excuse, the image below is from OBDeleven, but in Swedish. Perhaps someone can tell what is wrong and what I can try to fix it. The car has today rum 40530km, and the turbo is already broken? And also, why is the date saying year 2093?

Errors on dash is the orange engine symbol solid light and the diesel-warmer-symbol (lol) that goes out when the plugs are warm, it is flashing.

Sorry for my bad english

Hi Bryan,

Thank you - but my roomie is not limping. The only fault I has noticed except the error codes coming up as soon as I clear them with the engine running, and the come up if I clear them with engine off but in ON mode when I start the car, and also the car feels tired sometimes and sometimes not, but the diesel consumption is much higher. It use to be app 0.4 and now it is 0.56 / 100km

So, I found this:

http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/16622/P0238/000568

That tells me that it is the Boost Pressure Sensor, just like the error code. So, I took out the sensor, easily located (see picture - 2x T30 - just disconnect the wiring first, unscrew it and wiggle-pull it straight up with slight force), and it had drops of diesel on it. I cleaned it but that did not help, so I ordered a new one just hoping this is faulty. I've read some scary things about these sensors (I THINK they are called MAP-sensors in english), part no : BPK 03G 906 051E , that if they are wet, some membrane is damaged and leaking and I can just toss the car into a fire because the engine is so damaged... But I refuse to believe this and I think that it is due to the higher air-pressure flow and more air in the engine that some diesel that is not combusted slips through when this sensor started to be electrical faulty and then it just got worse.

If it is not this sensor then it has to be some other sensor, obviously. I'll try the Mass Air Flow later if replacing this does not help.

I'll keep you updated.

So, I just realized that there is two exactly the same looking sensors here... and I saw it on my picture. I am no mecanich and I am living alone with three kids, giving time for this to zero, close to.

I unscrewed the other sensor (look sligthly down to the left on the picture just right to the washer fluid) and it was covered in sooty oil and I just cleaned it and I am going to set it back and try it soon again. This sensor is BPK 03P 906 081 (Sensor, Boost pressure, Sender unit, Intake air temperature, Intake manifold pressure) and it could just be that one. If the problem is gone now I will return the other sensor and perhaps replace this, or replace them both... I don't know.

Well, that didn't help - so now I have two sensors that could be broken.

The strange thing is that OBDeleven tells me the same error even with engine off, that should indicate broken sensor, right? If the same error comes up without even starting the engine.

Hi Northrol, I have an appointment with a local garage on Friday. I'll let you know how it goes. I'm only prepared to spend a certain amount on sensors etc. If it's a major job the car is scrap. It is 10years old.

Garage fixed it today, thanks to BLACKBIRD'S suggestion. Very cheap, just a new pipeclip.

Where can I find more info on this, please? My sensor has yet not arrived from Germany.

SOLVED!

Just replace the sensor from my first picture with new one (BPK 03G 906 051E) , really easy 2x T30 scews was all.

It cost me £10 and error code P023800 is gone!
