Problems with my Octavia Scout 2015

Featured Replies

Has anyone else experienced a multitude of mechanical failures with a Skoda Octavia Scout, my car a 2015 was bought from Henry’s of Glasgow and to be honest I regret the day I ever heard of Skoda or Volkswagen for that matter, the latest problem seems To be 1) A Diesel injector that the seal has broken on and is making the car run like a wheelbarrow with a flat tyre and  2)  The pressure switch has gone and you can imagine the problems that both those issues bring, especially since this car was sold to me as a private hire taxi, and to be honest, I don’t think there has been a period of more than six weeks without this car being taken back to the Dealer, Henry’s of Glasgow and after my experience with Volkswagen/ Skoda my next car will definitely be a Ford can any of you technical minded Skoda Owners give me your opinion, have I just bought a unlucky car or are there serious issues with the build quality of this model.

I would say you've been unlucky as there are no serious build quality issues with the mk3. What checks did you do before buying the Octavia? What checks will you be doing on the new Ford? Buying used is a lottery unfortunately!

@Booky

What miles was on the car when you bought it,

and do you mean it was an ex private hire taxi or that you bought it to use as one?

What is the service history and warranty history in the first 3 years, and has the haldex been serviced?

I agree with all that. I bought my 2015 Scout DSG as ex demo when it was just 3 months old, having previously owned a MK2 Octavia for 8 years from new in 2007. I have had no serious issues with either car. Occasionally I get the spurious position P error warning in the later car, but it has never got bad enough to really bother me. Before the first Octavia I had a 2002 Mondeo which had a few problems, and I would go for a Skoda in preference to a Ford any day. My late parents had an Octavia and a Fabia, and those were also great cars.

Admittedly I have to say that being retired I do a small mileage compared to a taxi, and have done just 34,000 miles in the Scout. I would not expect a dealer to recommend a Scout as a taxi, if that is what happened, as a 2 wheel drive car will give better economy. I usually get between low 40s and 50 in the Scout depending on where and how I drive it, but that doesn't compare too badly to the older car which was manual, 2 wheel drive and 140ps rather than 184.

Unfortunately there are some bad Skodas around, and there are posters on here who have had more than one, but that seems to be true of most makes of car.

An important point about Henrys Skoda Glasgow can be.

Read the reviews in the Dealer section,

Henrys (North) Glasgow & Henrys (South) Glasgow.  They do not both get the same reviews or reputation.

Decide which you would rather deal with for servicing.

 I noticed the Octavia was a popular Private hire vehicle but due to our weather here in Scotland I wanted a 4x4 and the salesman at Henry’s Skoda in Glasgow told me the manager was using a demonstrator they had its got approx 4000 miles on the clock and was a really nice car I paid approx £23,000 for this car and first 6 months were fine, there’s approx 112,000 miles on the clock now, and body wise it looks as though it’s just come out of the Showroom because I like to look after my Cars, but mechanically it’s a nightmare, I don’t think I have had more than 6 week driving without needing to go back to Henry’s Glasgow and they are not interested, as I explained to the previous Service Manager, anyone can sell a Car but it takes a good Dealer to make the Customer come back and they haven’t done this, at every problem encountered I have had to escalate the problems to Skoda Uk ,and then I would get a call from Henry’s,Glasgow asking me to amend the scoring on the customer survey from Skoda uk because it reflects baby on them,
