Hi all, been recently looking at an mk2 Octavia VRS, however whenever I look at sites such as revo its brought my attention theres a TSI and TFSI engine, which are seemingly identical specs wise (both 200bhp and same torque) but the TFSI has more tuning options? I'm just a bit confused really? Does the mk2 come with either a TSI or TFSI engine ? i.e older ones came with a TSI, new TFSI? or did Skoda also make a non vrs TSI octavia? If its a case of they made two engines for the VRS how do I tell the difference ?

Volkswagen (Seat, Skoda) calls it TSI and Audi TFSI they pretty the same technologies used. 

TFSI is the earlier engine with a belt driven cam. TSI was introduced mid 2009 I believe and has the chain driven cam it also has better high pressure fueling I believe. So there as some major changes between the engines. I wouldn’t say the TFSI has more tuning options though.
 

My cars V5 actually says mine is a TFSI, it’s a 2011 FL and is definitely a TSI as I’ve just had the chain and tensioner done on her! The engine cover is the usual way of telling.

The TSI of the mk2 Octavia vintage was the engine with oil usage problems, I’m not sure when this issue was addressed in the factory, It’s not every engine but it was quite prevalent.
