Indicator Stalk Replacement

Featured Replies

Hi everyone, I’m new here, and I promise I’ve searched the forums before asking this. I’m just confused about what part to order.

I’ve got a 2007 Octavia TDI Classic 1.9. A while ago, someone broke into the car and vandalised the interior. One of the things they broke was the indicator stalk. I was able to push it back into place and it worked fine until today when it came off in my hand.

From what I’ve read here, my car has separate stalks, and that I’ll need to take the steering wheel off and all that. The thing that is confusing me is that different parts sites are suggesting different looking parts.

Can someone say which of the parts below look right? Is there anything else I should know? I’ve found loads of threads about changing to cruise control stalks, so they are pretty good at explaining the process.

My 06 plate uses the one at the bottom of your post, and I bought a cruise stalk that was advertised as coming from an 09 car, so I’d assume most the mk2 Octavia range should use the stalk style at the bottom of your post.

I’d even hedge a bet that the top picture is a mk1 stalk as they look like that generation of vag stalk.

Thank you, VRSBurnzy.

It’s frustrating because I’ll need to get help to get the wheel off (no tools) and I’d like to be able to take it off and put back on the same day.

For information: it looks like my 57 plate takes the top kind of stalk.

Are you sure on that? Just seems odd, but if the one you pull off is the top kind then I’m not arguing 🤣👍

Totally! I took it apart this afternoon, and I found what I found. It’s all good, I managed to get what I needed from a friend of a friend and it’s fixed.

may seem stupid, but is your car actually a mk1 of the "runout" build taxi spec variety? they were availble up to 2010...

the top stalk im 99% sure is a mk1..

maybe they were still using up the parts bin on some trim levels of mk2...

 :D

Ah fair enough i stand corrected, I wonder why the different styles 🤔

What was the run out taxi spec spec?

Had I known of them I may well have been tempted, I was looking for the latest MK1 I could find and thought at that time the couple of 2004 models that I viewed were the last, I eventually bought a MK2 and whilst I liked some of the features it has definitely lost the Mojo of the MK1.

@J.R. iirc....

1.9tdi (probably a pd, cant remember) with a very fuel efficient 100bhp map.

pretty much ambiente in trim, i think,

couple of extra toys/upgrades.

to buy them new you had to have a registered taxi license.

if you search the "tour" spec in the mk1 section it got discussed a few times.

Thanks, I have become accustomed to the Elegance spec now!

Says he with a poverty spec Yeti and constantly trying to add the missing bits.
