TPMS type ?

Recommended Posts

Hey!

Just picked up our -18 Superb Combi 2.0TDI this weekend and Im ordering some coilovers and new wheels for it.

Im just wondering does these cars come with active or passive TPMS ? ie do I also have to get new set of TPMS sensors along with the wheels ?

Welcome to the forum.

Nothing in or on the wheels.

It uses the passive type, i.e. using ABS wheel sensors to measure rotational speed.

Looks like this when it detects low tyre pressure......in this case front left tyre.

Another example, this time rear right, in the Vehicle Status:-

There is a direct version that can b retrofitted.

This is true, that active system is better and faster to react, but still thats something I can live without. Atleast for now.

@Xiin

Direct TPMS set costed me 53€, in far 2017, nowadays similar sets can be found for ~30€.
(can't remember a day when i were able leave supermarket without pay that small amount)
YES, original VW's dTMPS is expensive and less informative, but ~30€ alternative is must have.

four Michelin Primacy 3 225/55r17 97Y costed me 592€

From factory my car only shows to check tire pressure, it doesn't tell which tire pressure is low.
