side strips

Featured Replies

took off the side door protection strips today thinking it would look better and it does, well it would had the sun stayed out long enought to finish the job, have blisters on fingers and aching arms now, all the glue stayed on the car, none of it came of when i removed the strips so had to pry it off in every and any way possibe.

whats good for getting the rest of the gunk and glue off when tomorro dawns, i thought turps but wanna keep my paint, tried to get some 3m adhesive remover but was out and said not to use on cellulous paint, didnt know what that was either

any ideas please, will post finished product picture tomorro

I think it looks much better without, but watch yourself in carparks I have a few little scratches now from peoples doors touching mine and sliding up/down as they get in/out their car, which is very annoying.

I used a hairdryer and my fingers to get rid of most of the sticky stuff and then a couple of cleans with the normal stuff finished the job off. Had a few blisters by the end of it, but no marks on the paint.

wd-40 works ok - but just rubbing hard with a good cloth or thumbnail is good enough. :)

A caramel wheel in the drill, gone in about 5 mins flat and no sctatches.

White spirits. ;) It won't damage the paint.

I use a product called Shift, its a tar and glue remover, brilliant stuff, doesn't damage the paint at all. Its got a sticker on the side from "Semple Chemicals" don't know if they are manufacturer or a middle man though.

I use it on my Fabia each week just before I wash it, spray on, leave for five minutes then high pressure wash off. Then sponge wax wash and rinse. It takes all the hard work out of getting rid of road film. Its great for any sort of tar or glue you want rid of.

T+G remover will certianly strip any polish and protectant of the paint though. To use it everytime I think is a little much.

cheers guys, i can feel the blisters already as i type, ive actually finished the driver side and most of the passenger, but just got tired of it now, will persevere in morning i think, followed by a t-cut and wax, its three years old and the paint underneath is no different to my eyes compared to the rest of the car and i`ve looked pretty hard :)

i already have a few chips in the door from people openeing their door onto mine, bunch of fat gits, to some people a car is just to get them from a-b but to others, nuff said

p.s i dont have the luxary of a driveway as such, i do kind of, but its too far from the house to reach a hairdryer, can imagine the looks..."what you doing?" "just blowdrying the car haha"
