Fuses + Dashcam, driving oneself mad...

Featured Replies

Hi,

First off, I work in IT so anything physical i'm useless at... so this is probably adding to my annoyance.

I know hardwiring a dashcam is covered on multiple posts on this forum so apologies for asking the question in a new post, but, no matter what fuse behind the glovebox I hardwire my dashcam to, the fuse always seems to be a live connection.

Reading various posts on here, they recommend using the following fuses for the Rear Wiper, Blind spot, heated seats etc. However whenever I piggy back of these, the dashcam powers on and remains on 24/7 even though there is no key on the ignition. I have a 2017 Superb (RHD).

Some other fuses that have been recommended I can't use as there seems to be no metal teeth connector in that part of the fuse box.

Am I going mad? or can someone point me in the right direction/suggestions?

regards,

Richie...

Please delete this or disregard, I have managed to sort it, I couldnt use the rear wiper fuse the adapter couldnt fit between to fuses next to it, and I didn't realise I only only needed one contact in the Blind Spot fuse for it to work.

Hi, I'm new to this forum having picked up my superb 3 at the weekend. A dashcam is high on my priority list. If you could let me know, wait size piggy back fuse you used, mini micro etc. Also what number fuse you replaced, I presume it's the fuses behind the glove box?

Thanks, Duncan.

Have a look at this thread.

Thanks 😀

hi I think @GAG reply covers it,

I used a nextbase series 2 hardwire kit, I was going to piggy back of the rear wiper fuse (47, full size) but the fuse holder Didn’t fit as it collided with a larger fuse, so I used the blind spot detection fuse (48), I don’t have bsd in mine so there was no fuse inserted. The nextbase adapter just fitted in.

Thanks, I have blind spot so will try to piggy back that one, hopefully doesn't throw any error codes up.

I’ve been using the blind spot fuse to piggy back for my dash cam for a few years now, no issues at all I’m sure you’ll be fine 🙂

I used the rear wiper to piggy back the fuse.

The BlackVue works fine with no issues.

I think the issue I had was that my car has the rear wiper installed, so I had to pull that fuse and place in the Nextbase adapter, that fuse then stopped the adapter from going in as it caught on the fuse yours is just sitting over. Placing it in the empty BSD made the adapter just sit snug above the rear wiper fuse and that larger on to the left.

No prob, I have one of these wired in which is very neat with no obvious camera on display:

 https://www.nextbase.com/en-gb/series-1-dash-cams/rear-view-mirror-dash-cam/

The downsides are that the mirror no longer dims (but it’s tinted, so minimal glare anyway), and also it’s quite a bit bigger than the standard mirror - but I always thought the Superb’s rvm was too small anyway 🙂

I will get a photo of it installed today in case you’re interested

Thanks for that, I think Costco had those for sale for a while. Wife has a Garmin one and I quite like that because it's so discreet. Also it has voice control which actually works and speed camera alerts with free updates for life. I've had mini 0803's for years but they're at the end of life now but have earned there money on more than one occasion.
