Engine warning light on after paint job

Featured Replies

My Fabia Mark 2 just out of body repair shop. Front and rear bumpers resprayed.

Yellow engine symbol warning light on permanently when collected. Does not seem to have same power as normal.

any possible connection or just a coincidence?

No welding done then!

It is quite common after a vehicle is in the bodyshop.

If the engine has been running, ticking over, moved about a few times, maybe even had the battery charged or jump started.

Is it the Engine Light as in the Exhaust Emissions Control light.

If now in Limp Mode you want the Fault Codes read if any, then cleared if the light never went out after stopping and restarting.

?

What engine has the car?

May have been some welding as was hit. Unsure. Think is emc light.

is it ok to drive. What do I need to do please. Assume limp mode is the poorer performance.

will it correct itself after a while  away from fumes etc.

They would be used to using surge protectors and disconnecting batteries, but you had best speak with the manager tomorrow.

They should be able to plug into the OBD and reset.

The car should have had a Full Electrics Check after an Accident.  If an Insurance job then they are paying for that being done.

If the light is not already out then likely it is not going out until reset.

Thanks Roottoo. Will check tomorrow. Will let you know outcome. Safe to drive without doing damage?

Not too far and obviously not quick if it is in limp mode, maybe the turbo disabled.

I did 1,100 miles or so including doing the NC 500 with a Twincharger in Limp Mode as it was needing a new water pimp and went into Limp just before setting off and would not stay cleared.

Further to the above problem. Took to an auto spark I have used for years.

put on his computer and came up as timing chain/belt loose or worn. Asked was it noisy on starting. Very noisy especially when starting from cold.

have been quoted £250 -- £300 for a change of timing belt by a garage.

does this sound right?

Being a 2010, your car probably has the original version of the timing chain tensioner that's known for being crap, in which case it'll need the upgraded parts kit (03F 198 158 B ) which runs to about 100 GBP on its own. Have a read through this thread for more background:
