New VRS- Questions!

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I've just put a deposit down on a silver Fabia VRS (05- 5K on the clock) with cruise.

I owned a 2001 SDI saloon for 2 years and it was a great car, no major problems and anything that did go wrong was quickly sorted by Skoda. So having seen more and more info on the VRS and the praise it's getting, I thought I'd take a look. I currently own a Mitsubishi Carisma DID (Turbo Diesel) and it's awful, in my defence I am clocking up about 1.5K a month so I needed something economical (diesel). Previously I've had a Colt CZT, Mini Cooper S & a Ford Puma, so I'm used to hottish hatches. The VRS blow me away, it's a little beast and best of all it's different not only a diesel but a Skoda and I like that!

Anyway after my waffle I was after some advice on cleaning products please.

I hope to pick it up next saturday and weather permitting I was intending to wash & wax the car and alloys (dealer will polish not wax bodywork). This should help with future cleaning, especially the alloys!

I was after some pointers on the best wax is for the bodywork and alloys (two seperate products I know).

Also anyone have a recommendation for keeping the black door handles looking err black! I've used auto glym bumper care for years but wondered if there's a better product on the market.

Thanks.

Turtlewax glossguard for paintwork and wheels. I have used it for a couple of years now and its superb (in my opinion its even better than the autoglym products). They try and tell you that you need different stuff for the wheels but don't believe a word of it!

First off if your dealer won't wax it then don't let 'em polish it!! Thats absolute madness!!! They should either do both or just wax it!

As for cleaning products the only stuff worth using is Meguiars, makes all others (including Autoglym) look like expensive washing up liquid. ;)

Halfords do now stock some of the meguiars range and you get get the rest on line.

Hi

I would recommend Collinite 476s detergent proof wax.I applied this around 6 months ago. The car has been through a car was at least twice a week throughout winter and the water still beads up well. It is just starting to show signs of needing doing again as the beading is a bit less extreme in places (the rear hatch). It was easy to put on and polish off and does not discolour trim. Generally it is so good that even a light dew beads up! Bugs and bird poo just slide off with a light wipe. Gloss is lovely. Only downside is it cant protect your car against Toyota Landcruisers.

I have tried all the stuff that Halfrauds sell over the years and have never come across anything this good. It will also last for maybe 10-15 years as you use hardly any to do a Fabia.

For the wheels I went for Poorboys World wheel sealant. It doers make the whaeels easier to clean, but the really hot bits still stick. Next time I do the wheels properly, I will try te Collinite instead.

You will also need some decent cloths and pads for applying wax. Alex there is very helpful and delivery is quick.

Cheers for the advice! I'm not 100% sure they'll just polish but if they're like the Mitsubishi dealer (who's part of the same group) then they won't! They might just wash it as it's in very good nick! Still I want to be sure, so I'll do it myself anyway, I'll have a nose around those sites!

I'm bit of an AutoGlym man myself.

Spent 4-5 hours today first using Bodywork Shampoo Conditioner followed by Super Resin Polish then Extra Gloss Protection.

The extra gloss stuff is really good as long as you let it dry for at least 45 mins before buffing.

Might try some other makes, AutoGlym range is a bit expensive.

I have the Maguiars extreme (purple) shampoo & next generation wax (very good on the Mitsi). But was just after others opinions.

I also noticed that Meguiars do a tyre blacking gel- woohoo my dad goes ape about the mess the tire spray leaves on his drive!! :thumbdwn:

i use glym super resin then megs nxt tech wax. that was my silver old car, hopefully get a shot this week on me magic black new car and see how that combo fairs. does take nearly a day though from start to finish...
