DRL turns off when headlight comes ON

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I have a Superb mk 2 and I have enabled its DRLs from its maxidot. They work fine in daytime but when the headlights come ON at night the DRLs turn off. Is there any setting may b in vcds to keep it in always on setting?

Thanks in advance

The clue is in the name, they are daylight or daytime running lights.

They are too bright for use at night and should turn off when the sidelights or headlights are on...

They can be coded to be on with headlights.

Hey all, thanks for your replies. I just visited the service center and they said that it cant be done. I am not sure if they dont know the codes or dont want to do it :) . I wanted to attach LED strips (which are they in all recent cars) and was thinking if I can just reconnect the DRL wires to it would have been easier. Not sure from where I can connect those wires then.

DRL and headlights on dont mix at night

As above too bright and glaring

If this was to be done they need to be set at 50% power when switched on with headlights and I dont think that is codeable in VCDS

I downloaded the attached file for DRL coding when I got the Superb new.

VCDS - DRL.txt

I thought that the DRLs doubled as the fog lights? If so, if you want your headlights on at the same time as your DRLs, then turn on your fog lights (although I think there’s something in the Highway Code about not doing that when it’s not foggy)

Nope... On the pre-fl MK2 the drl and fog lamp bulbs are next to each other and share an enclosure so it could be that you're thinking of?

Yeh maybe. I thought they were the same, not had a change a bulb yet so not had to look in detail at it.
