Roof bars - T track rubber strip fitting?

Featured Replies

Just got the genuine Skoda roof bars for our Yeti.

Didn't really need the instructions to fit them on the roof, it's all pretty easy and obvious.

Except the manual doesn't tell you how to install the rubber strip in the T track and that's the bit I'm struggling with.

Any tips?

Yes, that kind of thing.

Trying to slide it in from one end is hard and stretches it which doesn't seem ideal. But it's also too stiff to just push into place.

A very thin film of Vaseline helps it slide in or press it down into the channel.

Thanks everyone. Managed to work it out. Posting here for anyone in the future wondering...

  1. FIrst, use some kind of lubricant. I sprayed the bars and rubber liberally with silicone spray.

  2. When trying to push the rubber strip into the track, don't push down - it won't go. The trick is to push from the side, causing the rubber to flex and it just pops in. I've tried to draw some diagrams to make it clearer

Don't try and slide the rubber strip in, even with lubrication. You just end up stretching the rubber and shaving bits of it off with the sharp ends of the aluminium

Hope that's helpful to someone in the future!
