Moon white

Featured Replies

Good afternoon all

just joined the forum

picking up a moon white Octavia on Wednesday any tips as it’s metallic

also been told not to use a sponge ?

Have a search in this forum.

Not sure which muppet gave you that advice regarding the sponge. Wife has Moon White metallic Karoq since new in January 2018 and after 25,000 miles just using Car Plan shampoo, a bucket and sponge paint still looks sparkly like new. Welcome to the forum and don't believe everything you read on here.

As with everything on a forum, take whatever advice and then make your own mind up! I think you'll find that most people would rather use a microfibre mitt though. 🚗

Indeed. A wash mitt is better.

With that said, I find car washing is something  that has huge scope of acceptability. Some people are happy with a £5 hand wash (shudder) others are only happy with two buckets, wash mitts, a multitude of washing brushes and exotic products.

Just to clarify I wash with a sponge and dry the bodywork with a microfibre hand mitt.:)

Don't go thinking that this is personal because it isn't - however I defy anyone to check out a reflection type look on a nice sunny day and say they can't see any micro scratches. Usually easier to see if a sponge has been used.

Unless people have a religious regime, such as @SC03OTT with his 2BM, then they come sooner rather than later.

Unlike my Black Magic Pearl Superb which shows every mark imaginable the Moon White metallic does a great job of not showing scratches/marks so is a good choice in my experience having had quite a few solid whites such as my 2016 Superb SE.:)

spelling mistake

For sure, Moon White does a great job of hiding them. But they are there.

For the record, I don’t use the two bucket method. I can’t be bothered haha. I do have a huge tub for my water though. I’m not a full detailing convert.

I'm by no means into detailing cars, but I've recently been using Bilt Hamber Auto foam in a simple pump garden sprayer. 60mls of product in 1.5 litres does my whole octavia estate leave for 5mins and pressure wash off. Paint needs to be cool.  It's really good at lifting surface dirt before anything else is used on it if you need to. Wifes car is white and I can do a really quick rinse with it and pressure wash it off without using a bucket and mitt after.

Same, 2 buckets is overkill. I just have 1 big bucket with a grit guard and use a soft mitt and drying towel

Had my Moon White VRS for 2.5 years and wash with a microfibre mitt + 2 buckets. Very few swirl marks were observable from the dealer, but nothing that couldn't be polished out - and definitely shows less than darker colours. As with anything, if you take care when doing it and treat it with respect, it'll look the D's B's. Saddens me that it's currently sitting out there very dusty, but having Autoglym polished it on the last wash, it's still bloody good 6 weeks on, all things considered.

As an aside, Moon White has a lot of silver in the colouring (having spoken to a paint shop after a neighbour kindly used my door as a parking sensor) and really 'pops' when you pay special attention. But otherwise, sensible washing of any kind should be absolutely fine 👍
