Stiff ignition barrel

Featured Replies

I've noticed that the ignition key it is becoming stiff to turn. I'm reluctant to start spraying the dreaded WD40 everywhere in case it does more harm than good. Can anyone recommend a suitable lubricant please?

Many thanks.

I know of a few VAG ignition barrells that have failed and that is the first sign. internet is full of them too. theres no way of knowing how long it will be before it fails completely but personally i would replace it now.

as it is wear that is causing it i cant see how a lubricant would help (long term) you could check if white lithium was non flammable and use that if so..see what others advise

Thanks. I don't have any white lithium but I do have a silicon spray with a fine nozzle. I'm now wondering whether that might be OK to use.
