That is the question?

Having had issues with DPF's not only on my current Skodas but other vehicles in the past I wondered what peoples thoughts were on Diesel Additives, such as Forte or JLM? I appreciate the makers of these products make them out to be a panacea to your problems but if used from an early stage does anybody think they will help to prolong the life of the DPF if used regularly? Some of them now state they help reduce the temperature at which the regeneration process will commence and along with some other products help keep the fuel system, injectors and EGR valve up to scratch. Just seems that with my newest vehicle (it is an Alhambra with the 2,0 Tdi engine) DPF regeneration is taking place more and more frequently which is not great for the mpg!

Some assist and some are snake oil. If you have concerns about your dpf levels I would get an app and dongle to  check the ash level.

Rather than buying dpf cleaner you would be better just buying vpower diesel as that contains cleaners already in the fuel.

Can't speak to my Skoda as I do sufficient mileage to keep the DPF in good health but on my previous car, a Peugeot, I found dipetane to be very good.

I had a copy of PP2000 the Peugeot diagnostic software and checked the DPF before and after a 3 hour drive, then added dipetane ahead of the 3 hour  return journey (only stopping once on each trip)

And the DPF was a lot clearer after the trip with the dipetane added. Unfortunately I can't recall the figures as it was years ago, but my non-scientific test made me believe dipetane was helping.

Failed an NCT (Irish version of MOT) on emissions and added dipetane and gave it an Italian tune up and it passed the second time.

Had a lot of issues with the DPF on that Peugeot as I was living so close to work that the engine wasn't getting up to temp on the trips to/from work. Should have bought a petrol back then, now I live a long way from work so more suited to a Diesel.
