plastic door strips

Featured Replies

Has anyone taken the plastic strips off the doors on their fabia? Is it smooth underneath? Or will it need smoothing and spraying?

If they're anything like other VAG models they're usually very firmly glued in place and also have little peg thingies going through the door skin just in case.

If your on about the exterior protection strips, they are just held on with strong 3M trim tape......Im considering fitting them !!...

I wanted to take them off, not a fan of them!

@AmusedMussel

A previous owner must have put them on as the car does not come as standard with door protectors.

You might find that there has been paint / lacquer spaying / repainting before or damage under the stips.

Just beware of that. Plus they might not have gone on using the trim tape.

@AmusedMussel  They might well do,

but a Dealership fitted them because someone wanted them on, or somebody did because they never came from the factory with them.

Sorry for being nosy what year is the car?.

Could the strips be part of the black pack? you got the black headlights also noticed you not got laural reef at the side indicators ( not sure if that was an option) still looking good though that green / black combo 😀

Black Pack or not they were not a factory fit or dealer option on Mk2 Fabia vRS 2010-2014 in the UK or any country..

You just buy them and apply.

 factory option on most models, dont see why you could not have specified them on an RS.........

and the strange thing is, this RS had them on at a motor show........I think they look good and provide some protection to single mums and kids who swing doors open in supermarket car parks !!

They do just peel off as said above, Heat them correctly and you wont damage the paint, A hairdryer,Auto Glym Tar/bug/film remover, plastic pry tool and a bit of fishing gut and they'll come off no probs.

might have a go when we get a warm day then

I had the dealer fit them when I bought the car. They do offer slight protection from supermarket trollies but could be better positioned.

They were a standard fitment on the lesser-spotted Greenline. They are indeed, just stuck on with 3M tape. They will most likely buckle, if you remove them clumsily but careful removal will make them re-usable. That said, they were only £40-ish, a full set, from the dealer. I also believe they were available singularly, in case of damage.

Bizarrely, they have fitted them slightly high there... They are normally fitted just above the door crease-line-thingy! This makes the change in door skin level almost impossible to notice, whilst there, it is quite clear. (I have always disliked that door line shape).

The trim also prevents the whole door looking so "Slabby" and bland.

AmusedMussel, I think they actually look nicer on, then off. They for the black/green scheme nicely and break up a quite long door hight. (This is why they add the black door pillars to many cars- so as to make the roofline appar not so high. A kind of optical illusion, if you will). Have a look at the earlier two piccies, as a kind of before and after... You will still be left with the door line anyway, albeit a little less prominent. Add that tp the protection they may just give and keeping them on is a no-brainer!

I just hate unnecessary plastic on cars lol. Really random beef to have, but I guess you're right. Protection from dopes in car parks and alike

I guess the way to look at it is that they are necessary, due to trolly-shunting nutters!
