You can hear the sound just after the engine starts and I start pulling off

Hi,  To my mind that sounds more like the starter motor starting the engine after the car turned it off during an automatic Stop/Start).  I never use Stop/Start mind - I turn it off with the button just after I start the car to begin a journey.  It is not anything to do (or like) the noise I was having 🙂   Mine was a noise under hard acceleration uphill and was a whine (as Breezy_Pete said) I think it was just a "healthy" induction whine.

Thanks Paul, yes you are right it’s different. It happens even when the car is already running so not started motor.I think my example record makes it’s sound like it was prt if that start but it’s when I move off from standstill .

Could it be the clutch I’m not sure

I hope it gets resolved for you.  I have no idea if the noise you are hearing is in any way normal/abnormal/terminal or a "feature" but someone will know (if they can work out what is the issue noise and not just recording artefacts as you struggle to get it down on a recording).

Just a couple of suggestions:-

A better sound recording will really help the "real experts" on here to give you a better idea - most of us are just enthusiastic amateurs like you.  Notoriously difficult I know (been there - tried that) but it will be worth the effort.  You can also use the recording to demonstrate it to the seller/dealer when you (ultimately) have to take it in to them for investigation. I hope it had a good used warranty!!  When I did my recording my foot was damp and there was a sound like a squeaking rat as my foot moved on teh pedals and a farting sound due to a poorly positioned mic/phone which certainly muddied the waters.

You will be much much better served and helped by the various experts in thier particular field of interest areas if you put your car model, year, engine size, gearbox type, fuel type, 2wd/4wd, tyre rim sizes, and any extras you have on it from factory standard, Sound system type etc. into your profile as well as your (approximate) location.

Good luck.  and..... The DQ200 is not a lemon.  It had some issues in the past (pre Karoq days mainly) but all technology can be problematic and there is always a percentage of issues.  Don't believe the nay-sayers. It is such a popular gearbox (built probably in the millions) that even a small percentage of issues get amplified to death on forums etc.  I would certaily be asking the VAG garage if all of the gearbox and engine management updates have been applied to your car. They will know. If you purchased it from a non-franchised dealer or privately then....  Well....  I don't know.....

Talk to the VAG dealer about the All-in-one - In my humble opinion it is worth having if you don't already have it. Look out the threads on that.

Cheers,

Paul

@Paul1984When was the car first registered and how many miles has it done?

DQ200's are fine.

Thee was a World Wide Recall in 2012 that excluded Europe, then in 2014 a European Recall Action.

Then in 2017 a Recall Action on 2013-2015 ones.  This has been repeated twice in Australia and other countries.

But that is pre  Karoq.

There was the DQ200 issue with Some Karoq, but lets ignore that because we do not want to dwell of such small numbers with issues.  As long as it is not your car obviously.

There was / is a Software update for those that need it.

Well Cinch kindly booked the car into local Skoda dealer but after a short drive around the block could not replicate the issue/noise.

seems the noise comes after it has been driven for a while, here is the noise

Issue now is the car is out of the Cinch 3 month warranty today so guess I have to now wait and see if anything gets worse.

i have messaged them again and will see what they say but not holding much hope.Anyone have any thoughts on the noise.

The car is a 1.5DSG Karoq, 2018 model

Could it be a slight brake binding or even something fouling the tyre (bumper or mudguard or heat shield on brake disk.  I would pop it down to a local tyre place, show them the video and see if they can take a quick look underneath and at the brakes) - Free safety check style - nothing to lose.

Don’t worry about being out of warranty, as you have reported the problem within the warranty period, so they have to fix it.

I have a 2019 1.5 TSI DSG and have exactly the sound you described when accelerating in 1st/2nd gear. I am sure it's a DSG issue and hoping it doesn't get worse. Dealership heard sound and said they were 90% it was rear brakes as the discs were scored and pitted (£426 quote discs/pads) . This morning I was booked in with an independent and they they changed the pads (£32 + labour) and said there was nothing wrong with discs - not scored or pitted and perfectly within legal limits. We took it out and the short whirring noise is still there so we are fairly certain it's the DSG. Dealership say it's not covered in warranty and would charge a fortune to try fix problem in gearbox so i might contact Skoda directly

@IOMWelcome to the forum.

Skoda UK or CZ or anyplace else with a 2 or 3 year manufacturers warranty have no interest or reason to with your DSG making a noise when you of warranty.

Now the Warranty does cover clutches in DSG,s and that is in the Warranty T&C.s.   Good in world regions with long Manufacturers Warranty. eg Australia.

A DSG need not cost a fortune to have repairs on at Automatic Specialists after a diagnostic as to what is wrong.   It might at a Skoda Maindealers and they might not even do the work but farm it out.

Hey All, I thought I would give another update for anyone with a similar issue. After a second time going back to Skoda along with video recorings of the noise plus my own investigation of others haveing similar issue Skoda agreed with me that the clutch needs replacing. Amazingly also Cinch approved the replacement even though the car is out of their warranty beciuase I raised it whilst it still was.

Hoping to get her back tomorrow afternoon, whining free :)

After I further advised my dealership of my clutch issue based on knowledge in this forum they took it in again today for another diagnostic check (free). They have now agreed and confirmed it needs a new clutch. As 2019 Karoq is out of warranty they will further advise in a couple of days whether they will pay for parts, labour, everything or nothing. I will then decide whether or not to start a media campaign highlighting the DQ200 clutch problem prior to the launch of the new Skoda range in February 2024 :)

Just for reference, Skoda quoted 4.6 hours labour to do the work plus parts

Thanks for that Paul. I'm hoping they can come up with a reasonable proposal or it might be Small Claims Court based on Consumer Act (part not fit for purpose)

Seems by looking on here but also searching youtube etc. that this is a common issue. I think this is how I got Skoda to check and shared loads of video links to other peoples issue and what Skoda did about it then. Good luck, let us know how you get on

Just for future reference.

Did they say what aspect of the faulty clutch was causing the squeeling/whirring sound at the low speed? If not then it would be good to get the technicians view on what the cause is - is it slipping? Is it a sticky release bearing? Is it that the cluthcplates are out of tolerence and groaning.

Does it only happen at the low speed or do you ever hear it at, say cruising speed or any other gear apart from D1 (or D2 if that is what the car is starting at)

Do you ever notice the rev counter spiking when it happens (i.e. clutch slip)? Is it metal against metal grinding (i.e. when they remove the old plates do they have any meat left on them), was there any contamination on the working surfaces etc. etc....

It would be good for everyone to be able to have a good handle on the actual cause and we will only really know if the technician is willing to have an "offline" conversation with you and share the truth.

Good luck to you both 🙂

Paul

There is nothing new about DQ200 DSG Clutch issues.

Forgetting anything about 2009-2012 and that issues, Synthetic oil, campaign 34F7,  then 2013-2015, Oil, Heat, Pressure, campaign 34H5.

You get to 2014/15 and Fabia Mk3 with a 1.2 TSI or 1.4 TDI and there are issues, a tpi, clutch upgrades and software.

Not just for the Fabias though.

Nothing special happened to DQ200,s when they were being used from 2015, or from 2018.

Same old same old,

some have issues and some have not and getting VW Group / Skoda to admit to them is something they do not do.
