Wi-Fi but No Internet

Featured Replies

Hi all.
I’m confused, but having found this forum I'm hoping that will change.

I have the 3C8 035 730 E module which has wi-fi, but no way can I get internet access.

My phone is a Pixel 3 & it connects to the car just fine (in Premium mode).

I also have a dashcam with wi-fi, which I need to have internet access (for cloud storage).

I’ve taken screenshots from the phone to show the various settings.

I’m clearly missing something, but what?
Help appreciated.

Anyone ???

Some SIM cards can be a pain with the 3C8...D/E BT modules if I remember correctly.

Have you checked you're in an area with 3G coverage as the BT module doesn't support 4G or 5G.

I also assume you're able to make/recieve calls and the signal level is shown on the maxidot?

Yes langers2k, the area has excellent 3G (as well as 4G) and I've no trouble with calls.

I thought it may be some setting or other I'm missing but I can't see where 😩

Does your network allow your phone to be used as a wifi hotspot?

Yes, I tried that (see centre image) but maybe, again, something is wrong setting-wise.

What radio do you have?  If you have an Amunsden system, then you will need a 4G dongle to make this all work (to plug into the USB port).

A 3C8..E BT module is likely to be in a MK2 Superb so there is no USB port or a 4G dongle avaible.

@TommoC It's been a while since I last used a 3C8 module but try this:

- Have the hotspot disabled on your phone and forget the cars wifi hotspot

- Connect using rSAP (premium BT) to the car

- This should cause your phone to loose signal and have no data connection

- You now need to check the car has the correct APN set, this is done via the maxidot, possibly phone -> settings -> access point? The settings will depend on your mobile network

- Now disconnect the phones bluetooth and reconnect

- Connect the phone to the cars wifi hotspot

Hopefully you will now be able to browse the internet etc using your phone.

Finally, connect the blackvue to the cars wifi hotspot.

@langers2k Almost right, it's an Octavia, (with Columbus).

I'll give that a try but it'll have to be maybe next week, other things have pushed this down the priority list.

I'll report back once I know.

Cheers.

@langers2k I manage to grab a few minutes so tried your procedure but when I got to the last part of connecting to the car wi-fi it came back "Network not in range" (even sat in car!).

I haven't had chance to look at the Superb manual yet.

Time is tight just now so it'll have to wait a while.

Cheers.

@langers2k

Not to get too involved, I swapped a portable hotspot that I was using to get internet for the dash-cam (for when parked & phone not there) & all was great!

I then set about the car wi-fi again.

Low & behold, the thing setup fine. I now have Net access on my phone in the car. As a bonus the wife's phone now also connects & has wi-fi internet too.

I don't know why it suddenly works, maybe something to do with the dash-cam hotspot, I don't know, but however it does it is irrelevant, as long as it works.

I looked at the Superb manual but it didn't tell me to do anything I hadn't done previously, though it was nice to have that confirmation.

Cheers for the help.
