Petrol Vapour Collection System

Featured Replies

Hi..... While looking at another thread about petrol leaking from the filler cap, I found someone had posted a comment making reference to a "Petrol vapour collection system" near the rear right hand side wheel arch (see attached images).  Does anyone know how this is supposed to work ? as when I pull onto my driveway and it's raining, I often notice petrol staining on the floor right next to my rear wheel.  I have never noticed a petrol smell and there is no leak from filler cap so I'm thinking this vapour collection system may be responsible, but have no idea if it is a safety device that's actually doing it's job or if something isn't quite right.  I only seem to notice it when it's raining so did also wonder if it was just due to water running off the wheel arch liner.

Superb iii 1.4 TSi MY2018 still under warranty until January.

Thanks

That looks like oil / petrol leaking in your photo (given the rainbow effect on the ground). This is all I know (which I expect you've found already). I'd get your dealer to investigate / replace the evap canister if your car is still in warranty.

Thanks Chris.... I don't know if oil vs petrol would give different staining/rainbow effect but I probably should also have mentioned that I did have an oil leak on my drive 6 months ago from when my previous car's gearbox casing broke.  So originally I wondered if it was just excess water running off the wheel arch liner and mixing with old oil, but when I read about the vapour collection system I thought that it's too coincidental for it not to be connected.

Deffo get it into your dealer before the warranty runs out. I've just had my fuel canister replaced after smelling fuel & the back of the car - unlike others no actual fuel leak in my case. Judging by the amount of other posts / threads on this subject  this is known issue & the dealer should do the repair under warranty. Show them your evidence to prove your case. I wasn't so lucky. My car warranty ran out in Dec last year so I had to pay around £120 for a replacement as part of some other work I had done at the same time.
