Also note that the manual adjustment screws on the actual headlights do not move the projectors with the same mechanism that the automatic levelling does.

I had re-adjusted them in past when car was new, as I had a feeling then the output was not defined or smooth or better....I was not seeing well meters in front..

it was back in 2010.

Since  then no any need to touch.

inremeber I had visited 3-4 dealers and none of them did a correct or knew how to do it correctly!

so I did it with a. Friends VCDS by the 2 screws on the headlight and it did move to the center as supposed - so I think the whole mechanism moves the ball.

Bending was working perfectly.

Well either the previous owner 9f mine had fiddled with them or ist LHD related or something.

I was on level ground, turned on the lights, started the engine and let them do their startup dance, marked their resting position on the wall, changed the coding to AFS2, initiated basic settings, they wiggled around again but this time returned to a position much higher (about 2-3cm above the previous line and I was only about 1.5m from the wall so 2-3cm would have made a big difference to the overall beam), so I adjusted them down again with the screws, saved the position and that's where they stayed.

I'm certain had I not adjusted them that they would have stayed in the higher position.

Come autumn I'll take it to be checked to be sure. In Germany there is a scheme (paid for my the government) where garages provide a free light check of all external lights including beam pattern. They will also make the adjustment for a nominal fee if needed (also subsidised by the government). You then also get a sticker to put in your windscreen to say the car passed it's light test for that year 😁👍

Good morning !

Good thought from government - provides extra safety to all drivers and can be afforded!

- I have a VW-SKODA dealer in which works a friend of mine so I'll visit them and do all relevant adjustment as should.

They have the factory tooling to do (hopefully ) so.

Actually I dinot adjusted as you said,

I did not turn on the lights - I did not start the engine.... just switch was on and did the setting...

I' ll report back upon further actions.

The coding that enables AFS2 is based on the other cars which use different headlights. This means the 'home/neutral' position is different so they will point much higher than the original Octavia coding. You need to have the headlights realigned after changing the coding...

You can mark off the original headlight height on a wall, change the coding, perform the basic settings and use the manual adjusters to match the original. A more accurate way is to pop in to a garage and have them use the proper tools to set the alignement.

Just to point out, there are various codes which will all 'work' and it's not entirely clear which is 'most correct'.

I collected about 60-70 different AFS codes after seeing the posts by Berryman and Dmitriy76 on drive2. There seemed to be four stock codings for the Octavia depending if it was LHD/RHD and had ABS or ESP fitted. I settled on a coding from Berryman, it was for a LHD car (1310934) so I had to convert it for a RHD car (1311190) - if my understanding is correct, both assume ESP (MK60EC1) are fitted.

This must is true - not all xenon headlights are the same and not share the same exact functionality (ie. the neutral position ).

So if HL realighned this means you "reach" for the condition of the other much closer?

I may return back to AFS I and see if get back the original position and then apply another coding to see if projectors sit somewhere else - but apart from that the re-alignment will be necessary for whatever different coding  changed.

Re-coding back the factory code, the projectors do return to their old position.

I have coded another one, and now no any AFS error showed.

But they do sit higher so

I see 2 screws on the HL, both they're in short distance one in front the other in back but deeper, which is for vertical and which for horizontal axis?

Does anyone know if this is identical to pre facelift?

Sorry for bumping

Apart from the AFS module. I am seeing that pre fl obviously has a control unit for the xenon range control, which also live(s/d) behind the radio/dash, I am just wondering if the wiring is basically the same, except the pre fl has 10 pin headlights regardless if xenon or halogen, although the pins may not be present but connector is still the same 10 pin connector. I just am curious if I can use this guide as a reference since a lot of the structure between fl and pre fl are the same, even if the outside design aspects may not be.

It's completely different between the pre-FL and FL.

The pre-FL uses 10 pin connectors and a headlight range module. I think it reuses the same headlight motors that the halogens use..?

The FL uses 14 pin connectors and each headlight gains a AFS slave module. These communicate via the AFS CAN-bus with the AFS master which controls both the headlight range (up/down) and cornering (left/right) motors.

If you want to add xenon's on a pre-FL, I'd suggest grabbing the wiring diagrams for both halogen and xenon based cars from Erwin 👍

  • Wiring loom - I used this one from Aliexpress which was designed for a mk6 Golf and required some adaptation as the pinout is not exactly the same as the Octavia. I also had the seller include an extra level sensor cable, as the Octavia uses two level sensors as opposed to the single one in the Golf.

Do you have more info about modifying the wiring loom? What pins are in wrong place?
