the perfect bass solution?

Featured Replies

Hi,

Like most other people I am trying to find an easy way to increase bass.I want to keep the existing HU/CD changer and have been through loads of posts on the subject each with different advise.

However someone mentioned the Kenwood kfc wda69rc.These are two 6x9 subwoofers powered by a 200w digital amp.For ease of fitting you can connect them to the existing speaker wires and then fit them on a mdf stealth shelf.

It all sounds good I was wondering if anyone has put them in and what they are like.Found one review on the net who said they were very good.

Best price I found was

Trouble is that puts the louder full range speakers behind you, which can make the soundstage a bit odd.

If you're wanting to reuse the speaker connections to add bass you could try a bass tube or the Infinity basslink system, there's some threads on this around. These use RCA or speaker level connections for ease of fit, if you use the speaker level connections you won't need the remote link back to the headunit to turn the amp on/off.

When I changed my HU, I was quite surprised that the standard front speakers sounded quite good with the extra amplification. With a few adjustments with the HU settings the bass is quite punchy.

Of course, wanting more bass would mean connecting an extra amp & sub in the boot, as mentioned above.

Probably me who suggested the KFC-WDA69RC. It's a sub-only set of 6x9s with a wired remote, so there won't be issues with dragging the soundstage backwards. Can set crossover to 80/100/120 or 150 hz. Can also change phase 180 degrees. Variable gain on the remote.

Spidervrs: I think they'd intrude a bit into the bootspace if fitted in/under a parcel shelf, so maybe have a ponder before buying them. They are a lot smaller than anything else I can think of other than a removable basslinkx or similar.

You could use speaker level inputs from the rear speakers to feed the amp. Or you could buy an adapter from Blue spot that gives you RCA pre-outs from the back of the factory h/u (assuming Symphony CD-tuner). The amp. with the KFC... is quite small and light, maybe 200mm square and about 25mm thick. It'd easily mount under the shelf.
