Mk2 vRS diesel conversion?

Featured Replies

Just been 'waxing lyrical' about how fantastic the mk1 was and stiil is, and how they seemed to miss a trick with the mk2  and got me wondering. Has anyone ever heard of a mk1 pd lump being fitted into a mk2 vRS to replace the troublesome petrol unit?

Not heard anything... however anything is possible, depends on the budget.

If the mkII petrol option wasn't such a risk... I'd probably just think in the current light, go with that, keep it simple. Just need to find a good one. 😞

It would make a fantastic build project for someone with the necessary know how and skills. Maybe even the 2.0 Octavia unit perhaps?  Wow. Getting excited just thinking about it!

Taking into account the rubbish standard Mk2 vRS suspension, rear axle and brakes you might as well do it properly and put in a good petrol engine and haldex.

& have an AWD. So a Mk2 vRS being sold for Spares or Repair of which there are a few with gubbed 1.4TSI's / DSG's, and find a VW donor car of your choice.

I thought they did do a 1.9pd TDI in one of the MKii models. think it is a pd105 which might not be the strongest for modding. 5 speed as far as i'm aware

eg.

^^^ Pre Face Lift Mk2 Fabia.

1.8 20v turbo manual fabia mk2 has been done & is currently getting changed to 4 wheel drive.

I do agree about the reliability of the mk2 VRS however IMO a well looked after and well tuned mk2 VRS will blitz the mk1 vrs. When I first bought my mk2 vrs I hadn't seen many push over 260-280bhp,in the space of 3 years that bars been massively lifted and parts are ready available to hit 500+bhp albeit you'll need deep pockets.

I've spoke to others many a time about how skoda missed a trick by not putting even the 1.8 polo gti engine in the fabia…...Money talks

But then they did put the 1.8TSI 192ps / 250 Nm with the DQ200 DSG & 320Nm into the Polo GTI as the Mk2 Fabia came to end of life,

and then dropped that and went 2.0TSI,

so the Fabia MK3 owners were the ones that got landed with 110ps max from the factory.

They are there to buy if anyone wants them.

What I don't like is that even Toyota have pushed the boat in terms of a small fast hatchback, That Yaris GR is 257bhp out of the box(although it will cost you 30k).

What is not to like?

You could have bought 265,280,290 or 300 ps + Leons or Golfs, or a AWD S1 Audi you just needed to splash the cash.

The RRP of a Mk2 Fabia vRS just happened to be lower then the Polo, Ibiza & A1 twinchargers in 2010-2014 & near half the price.

Just sign the credit agreement and you can have the Toyota.

That its a Yaris & that Skoda currently has no performance hatchback in the market to rival others.

Well you have known that for years now.

They speak of Motorsport Success & Heritage and that was with small capacity petrol engines, and the use the 'Monte Carlo' name as a trim level,

and turned out a 1.4TSI 125ps DSG Mk3 as a R5 tribute and yet produce just the 1.6 AWD R5's to sell to the chosen few @ over 100 grand for homologation just the same reason as the S1 & Polo R's were produced.

There’s diesel ones too 🤣

Just get a Tdi monte carlo... or swap in a 1.6 tdi powertrain, would be an easier swap I presume as it is made for a fabia 2.
