Reverse camera.

Featured Replies

hey guys. 1st post hope everyone is well. My car didnt come with a reverse camera, but if the boot button was working then i would have left it as is. But as it wasnt working i had to buy it and thought id go and fit the camera. Anyway i have 2 questions. Which wires did you connect your power source on the wiper motor? Thers brown which is negative and the other is green red is that ok to use for power? Now my other question is my video cables have a red wire comming of it on both ends. I take it as that is for power? And do they need to be used?

Thanks

I am in the same boat. Where did you get your camera, and how much was it? Is it a complete kit, or do you need several parts?

I feel like I've got about a dozen questions: :) Will it activate with gear selection automatically, does the control console need to be reprogrammed to recognise the camera?

Good luck! Let us know how you get on. Hopefully someone who's already had a crack at it will be able to offer some fitting advice.

There is a lot of very useful info here, check out the links and YouTube for videos. My camera has just arrived and will slowly fit it as time allows,

Have a look here for some light reading:

Good luck.

Briliant videos man. Looks easy nuff. The hardest part was feeding the wire through the boot gromet...

Thanks man. Sorted all the questions for me. Ima finish it off. I ordered the rvc adaptor https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Car-Rear-View-Camera-RVC-Audio-Stereo-Cable-Adapter-for-VW-Golf-VI-Jetta5-AC1331/362990388523?_trkparms=aid%3D111001%26algo%3DREC.SEED%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D225120%26meid%3D2897d9037e1143d4942b4a715d79ab62%26pid%3D100675%26rk%3D3%26rkt%3D15%26mehot%3Dnone%26sd%3D171641862721%26itm%3D362990388523%26pmt%3D1%26noa%3D1%26pg%3D2380057%26brand%3DUnbranded%2FGeneric&_trksid=p2380057.c100675.m4236&_trkparms=pageci%3Aec8333c9-cac9-11ea-a164-74dbd1807353|parentrq%3A6df944431730a16d364e2828fff5ce82|iid%3A1 so plug and play.

Having been given a quote from MidlandVW for about £720 to fit a reversing camera, fitting it myself is looking more likely by the day. :D

That’s really expensive, see post #15 in this thread dealer in Leeds fits proper high line camera for £280.

Thanks for that.

I spoke to Chris Farthing on Tuesday and am waiting for a call back from him. Hopefully he'll give me a sensible quote and I'll get him to do the job. He's come highly recommended.

I was actually surprised at how high the MidlandsVW price was.

I've heard nothing bad about the company, but based on that quote, they seem very expensive, though it might have been a "F**k off!" quote if they didn't want the work. (Which I can relate to, but then I'm not running a VAG specialist garage.)

Other than that, I'm not sure what value they add over other companies, to justify their high cost.

Just heard back from Chris and he says there isn't a kit available yet, so he can't do the job at this time but will get back to me if one becomes available.

Had a quote back from Motormods (www.motormods.co.uk)

Two choices:

To supply and fit a genuine “Hi Line” camera with moving guidelines for £590.00   + VAT ...or...

to supply and fit a genuine “Low Line” camera for £420.00  + VAT
