Looking to buy, SE v SE L

Featured Replies

Hi folks,

I'm looking to buy a new or nearly new Scala. I've had my Honda Civic for 12 years and I'm ready for some gadgets!

My budget is for a PCP deal or a lease, at a max of £250 p/m, but the cheaper the better.

Is the SE L out of my price range?

I've seen decent deals on CarWow and Leasing Options, but not sure about how trustworthy they are.

The guys in dealerships are offering new cars with Skoda discounts and 3 months paid by the garage. I've not got any prices from them yet (going for a test drive tomorrow).

Just a couple of final questions -

I notice that the adverts mention Apple Car Play but I've got an android phone. Does it support Android Auto?

Also a bit worried about this lane assist feature. Can it be disabled or set to off as a default?

Hello,

In SE and SL, the smartlink option is standard, so you will have android auto.

Lane assist cannot be permanently disengaged .

I don't find the lane assist much of an issue. While you can't permanently turn it off it doesn't exaclty push you off the road either. I suggest you try it when test driving and decide for yourself but other than the permanent disable option its much the same as other cars with the option.

Android Auto  works well and I use it all the time.

Me personally would go for the SEL you get amunsden  head unit Satnav. virtual cockpit better than dials  more added for your money. use skoda finance calculator as a rough guide or go to dealer and get some figures thats your best bet. People get different deals one day to the next yes it does android auto my Kamiq sel is £289 pm no discounts as took delivery on day of launch

Thanks folks!

I took the Scala SE for a test drive today and it was lovely. I found the Lane Assist a wee bit of a surprise at first, but not a big deal after that.

Now my only problem is that after a bit of research, both my current old Honda and the Scala have exactly the same boot space of 370 litres (According to Which Mag).

One dealership is offering to go half in for fitted roof rails and roof box on a new SE (with metallic paint and 17" alloys) for £251 p/m but only if I buy before Friday (with Skoda picking up the first 3 months of payments).

An online leasing company can get me a new SE L (with metallic paint) for £239 a month. But I'd need to get my own roof box fitted for holidays.

Now I'm wondering if I should go for an nearly-new Octavia for the extra space....

BUT surely it would be cheaper to run the Scala? And it'll be a while before we're going on holiday, so I've got time to save up for the roof bars and box.

My head is spinning. Now I remember why I kept my Honda for so long! 😄

It's the worry of making the wrong decision!

The Scala has 467L of boot space - about the biggest there is in this segment of car (other that the new Civic). Its shape too is really practical.

I find the fuel costs on my 1.5 TSI Scala excellent - Im getting 5.7L/100Kms (50 UK mpg?)  after 4000kms mostly work commuting,  which is amazing for a car with quite impressive power.

I was in the same situation when i was searching for new car. I considered the new Octavia but the prices were quite high. What helped me was the big discounts of the early SCALAs in my country and the generous standard extras.

I don't know the workings of the PCP/leasing in UK, but in BG when you get car on finance by the dealer, if you don't like it you can switch to new model (of course from the brand) at some point.

Don't be pressurised by the dealer stating that you need to buy by a particular day.  The truth is that dealers have sold next to nothing in the past 4 or 5 months so it is a buyers market, not a sellers market.  Make them wait until you are ready and if they won't honour their quoted price, walk away.  Remember there are more cars than there are buyers.
