2016 L&K Yeti touchscreen (Admunsen?) issue

Featured Replies

I've contacted the guys at SatNav Systems Ltd, to see what they''ll likely charge to replace the screen - I'll let you know what they come back with.

In the meantime, if anyone knows a likely source for the screen itself - please let me know!

I've been having a similar problem with my 2017 Yeti - when typing in a postcode into the sat nav screen - the 'P' is non-responsive.

There was a previous fault where the screen either didn't turn on - or was non-responsive - so we took it into our local Skoda dealership.

They carried out a check and came back with this...

"Reg. media issue. Found fault in system for mechanical error of media screen. Test plan inconclusive, carried out software config on 5F. Customer to monitor however if issue re occurs the recommend new media unit."

Took the car in today for them to say it will cost £150 to run a full diagnosis - it will then cost either £1,200.00 to replace the head unit - or if it's the control unit - it will cost more like £2,000.00

Obviously not very happy with that, and I see that it's possible to replace the screen - do you have any recommendations about where to buy a replacement screen?

Thank you.

Sorry... slightly off-topic:

Does anyone know whether this problem is related to the age of the unit - or to the amount of time it is actually used?  Thanks.

OK, heard back from Satnav Systems - having told them my vin no. and specific model - they aid they can repair the unit to full functionality for £599 +VAT (with 12 month warranty), including map update with speed cameras.

If it can't be repaired - they will exchange it for a genuine OEM Skoda unit for £1,199 +VAT (with 24 month warranty) - pretty much what Skoda quoted.

They also offer lower cost alternative replacement units.

At the moment my unit works as it should (except for not being to type any postcode that contains a 'P' - slightly annoying when we live in an 'HP' postcode), but we can work around this for now - if it gets any worse, I may get in touch with Satnav Systems again.

Please can someone identify this unit in the photo for me.

I am assuming that as it has two SD slots (SD1 & SD2) that it is the Admunsen unit rather than the Bolero - is this correct?

Is it possible just to replace the touchscreen and where can I get one at a reasonable cost.

From what I have read the replacement should be something I could undertake myself.

I would appreciate any advice or assistance on this matter.

Not a Bolero unit

As it has 2 SD slots and no CD drive I think its an Admunsen 2 head unit.

I have managed to find someone in the West Midlands who has the relevant replacement touchscreens in stock and will do the replacement on my head unit for £250 including return P&P.

Also the replacement touchscreen that is being fitted comes with a 36 month warranty.

The turnaround for this is normally 1 to 2 days once he receives my head unit.

If all goes well with this I will post his contact details.

Any news on this?

Excellent service and good communication.

I sent the head unit last Friday (04/02) by Parcelforce 48, it was delivered to my man in the West Midlands on Tuesday (08/02) and it has just been delivered back to me this morning (10/02) by UPS.

Not fitted the unit yet but it has been fully tested prior to despatch and Satnav maps have been updated to 2022.

The replacement touchscreen has 36 month warranty so all good for £250.00 including return P&P.

A good find methinks.

Will have to give him a call!

I have just refitted the head unit and touchscreen is working perfectly - just like it should.

I am very pleased with my experience and the cost effective and very quick resolution of the issue.

This chap is highly recommended.

I hope others will find this useful.

My only concern is removing the head unit!

Mine was the Admundsen unit with the two vertical SD card slots either side.

Remove 15A fuse (blue) at position 8 (check handbook) within the engine compartment.

The tricky bit is removing the plastic trim surround carefully without damage - I used a thin plastic Tesco Club Card keyring tag to get behind it and prise it gently away on both sides at the top and then gently pull  it away at the top first.

There ar 2 Torx head screws (T10 I think) either side to remove and then gently pull the unit out as far as possible to get at the various cable connectors at the rear.

Remove the large square multi connector to the left first (passenger side) at the rear of the unit - there is a black plastic release lever mechanism on the bottom edge of the square multi connector that needs to be pulled up.

Over on the right (drivers side) at the rear of the unit there are three connectors to remove - a white double connector, a blue connector and a yellow connector. Each of these has a small plastic lock slider that needs pulling upwards to enable the connector to be pulled free.

The head unit can then be gently removed.

I put the large square connector in a small plastic bag with a tie and the three other connectors in a separate small plastic bag with a tie to prevent any issues when the fuse is replaced.

You could replace plastic trim surround to keep it tidy and put the four Torx head screws in a safe place.

You will then need to replace the 15 amp fuse (blue) at position 8 in the engine compartment or the car will not start without it.

Let me know if you need any further clarification.

I know my man (Ant) in the West Midlands has touchscreens for the Admundsen units in stock.

However, if you have the Bolero unit you will need to talk to him as he may need to get the relevant parts.

If you are close to the West Midlands (Tipton) I understand he does also offer a 'while you wait' service which I assume also includes removing the head unit from the vehicle.

Thanks for the help with this everyone. My wife has a 17 reg yeti with the same Amundsen screen issues. We’re going to contact Ant and see what he can do.

Thanks to the help on this thread. My wife had a yeti with an unresponsive touchscreen. £1200 for a new one from Skoda was certainly out of the question, so we rang Ant, who replaced something on the touchscreen and it now works perfectly. Also got a map update as well as removal and fitting. All for a very reasonable price. Completely recommended.

I am glad Ant was able to help you with this - he was a very good find.

Sending mine off to Ant, will let you know how I get on!

  • 4 weeks later...

Had mine done by Ant - opted to visit him and he did it in an hour. Definitely recommend!

Finally found time to remove the unit and send it to Ant - very pleased with the quick turnaround and now have a working screen!

Sorry, I've come to this post late but it's worth noting that there are companies that will repair a whole range of electronic components across a variety of manufacturers.  They often offer lifetime warranties and a repair tends to come in at a fraction of the cost of a dealer sourced new item.  This is an example of an Amundsen rebuild for £250 plus carriage:

The procedure to remove and refit the unit is straightforward and the only tools required are a plastic trim removal lever and a T20 torx driver.  If you're unsure, there is an explanation on YouTube here:
