SatNav Update - Scammed!

Featured Replies

Having just taken ownership of a 2011 Superb Elegance, I found the maps on the Columbus Satnav were hopelessly out of date. I asked the dealer about an update, and he suggested that I check out available updates on the web, as the Skoda ones were really expensive. I found a company (SatNavUpgrade.com) that seemed genuine and ordered the DVDs, one for a firmware update and one for the maps update at a total price of £24.99. It now appears I have been stung as the maps update DVD would not load, and despite emailing the supplier listing the problems I've had, I have received no reply. A quick check on Trust Pilot shows that this company are scammers and have ripped off many, many people. To make matters worse this "update" has removed all existing old maps too. All I get when trying to load the DVD is a message "Please insert a Navigation CD/DVD". I have checked for an update DVD from the Skoda dealer in Bath, and I was told it would cost £180 including VAT! Before I splash out on this DVD, does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can get a genuine map update which works, or failing that restore the old maps? I am a pensioner and it would really hit me hard having to pay for the genuine Skoda update.

Ouch! Thanks for the heads up on that company.

Sorry to hear this. I used satnavdvd.co.uk, same price, then in June 2017 and it worked fine.

I must say though Rustynuts offer is very generous.

I have seen you promote freedom on a previous post, are you affiliated with this site in some way Rustynits?

Absolutely not. I'm simply a member who believes that without financial support the site wouldn't be what it is. If I have something to sell then I offer a discount to people who support the site financially.

I notice you're not a paid member, perhaps you should join?

Come on @Rustynuts, confess!

What do you do with all those £10 / year subscription fees? 😋

I don't get £10 from anyone. The subscriptions are paid to Briskoda.

Can we leave this subject please, this is not the thread or place for it.

I consider that the countless hours i have devoted to helping others on this site should entitle me to free freedom.

the dsg oil change post alone took more than double the time it should have because i measured - colour coded and photographed every relevant bolt part and torque setting required.

As for supporting the site, the amount of advertising and cookie tracking  must be quite lucrative,

Dont get me wrong I do value the site and people like you and langers, dipp. chimera, silver  to name but a few make this site the success it is.

Good to know there are alternative suppliers who provide a product that works! I'll keep that site for the future then, thanks. And yes, Rustynuts offer is VERY generous and I am happy to take it up.
