Brake disc dust cover

Featured Replies

Much worrying noise from 'somewhere' when I pulled off the M6 this morning. The noise stopped when the car did and there was no obvious source when I had a quick look around and under.

A second look suggests it's the dust cover that sits inboard of the front right brake disc.

Does anybody have any advice on replacing it, and is it an option just to remove it?

Thanks

Could just be a stone got lodged in there, you'll know more when you take the wheel off.

Nice try, but the cover is loose, I can reach it and move it around. I wonder if it may just be a screw or clip worked loose and I can reattach it

The 3 dished mountings will have fractured, its taken them 2 decades of continuous research to finally come up with a steel able to be made thin and brittle enough to hold together for the warranty period before self destructing, previous attempts were not so successfull and some made it to quite high mileages and even failed through corrosion :D

€10 or so will get you another tin foil like chocolate teapot, remove caliper & disc & then the 3 mounting screws to remove the remains of the old one & refit the new.

Check the others carefully, they will go the same way.

Fair enough G. You didn't say the cover was loose in your post. It shouldn't be a problem to fix then. 👍
