2007 ROOMSTER 1.9 SCOUT NEARSIDE REAR PASSENGER LOCK FAIL

Featured Replies

Stripped the card off and took out lock to find replacement similar but not right regarding connection to door handle. Just wondered if anyone had a similar experience.? Waiting for supplier to reply .At least I know how it all comes apart. The original is on the left in the photo.

Thanks BOB

Yes Im finally getting my head round things.I thought I had  ordered the right lock according to e -bay.But my lock has a door release fixing with a round nipple ,which the cable head snaps over.As the label says on my old lock 5J839015A and thats what i should order.Annoyingly all the Roomster locks which don,t suit are  around £30 or under, are easily available( the market seems awash with them},whereas my lock is harder to source and more expensive , or so it seems. With hindsight should have taken the old lock to read label and ordered accordingly.

Checked cables under rubber shroud and they seem sound as fault is intermittent ie sometimes door will unlock ,sometimes not, despite dousing all exterior parts in wd40.

This guide was helpfull posted by another member and  so thanks.                                                          https://skoda.7zap.com/en/cz/roomster/ro/2007-481/

Can't you partially dismantle the old part and swap over the bits you need?

No the locks are not compatible in that way. A good  job I took a photo when it was out with the number 5J7839015A (pre facelift models) as this is the part I want. A lot of after low cost market  items might quote that number but there not the same ie with cable mushroom nipple. All the scrap yard items for sale look rough. Might go for a new one  from Skoda Parts in Czechoslovakia for £82 as in 10 years of ownership nothing has gone wrong except 2 seat buckles.

Anyone else with this problem I would advise you to take the lock out and read number on the label before ordering.

To get at the lock ,price grab handle surround off with a screw driver, undo 2 big torx head screws. Undo small torx screw at base of door card. Prise door card off ,and lift watching out for door catch release cable and speaker wire connecter if you have one.

Thanks Bob

Forgot to mention window winder removal. You grip the circular base in your fingers and push it sideways and it all comes away. Lot easier to remove than winders of old.

Cheers BOB

I am going through the same issue at the moment, I have come to conclusion that buying a new OEM unit is the only option as units from the breakers are just as likely to be not working as unit in the car.

Yes same here ordered OEM this morning.Thinking about the safety aspect convinced me,and as you say breakers purchase could also be faulty sending you round in ever decresing circles!

Lock took about a week to come from Czechoslovakia and 20 min to fit. Cost with postage was about £100 ,but considering over 10 years of ownership except for a cam belt change this was the most Id ever spent on the car it wasn,t to bad. I had to jiggle the lock upwards to let it come out from the door.P1040629.thumb.JPG.b86caeda2404427b7ae624b77a56d5c5.JPGP1040630.thumb.JPG.c939e361e75ef90a75e873a016a43b9a.JPGP1040631.thumb.JPG.8bf5c8aac0b88db0a53d4c4fdb8d714b.JPGP1040632.thumb.JPG.5178c1bdbff3ff5430dc5ce1a5889d4f.JPGP1040633.thumb.JPG.c57aa1d34d2e3156f915ceb1086f45a3.JPGFew photos if it helps.
