In my owners manual it recommends getting the dealership to switch the lights from left to right hand drive. As far as I can see they are conventional bulbs, so they do not switch automatically (Superb III SE Business).

I queried this a while ago and there was a lot of discussion but nobody was able to say what the dealership does to switch the lights. I am not kean on sticking reflectors to the plastic lenses.

Does anyone know what work is required?

Personally I don't bother. We have been going to France for the last 10 years to see French friends and my lights on dip are about central in the road. There does not seem to be the bias on headlamps as there used to be. I set the headlights on the lower setting and in the years I have been going I have not been flashed by French or German drivers. The French friends don't bother either when they visit England. I know that on some models there is a lever to move across the re-aim the lights but I don't know where it is. The stick on thingys are a guess as to where to stick them on the lens. I have a pair on the travel kit but have not used them.

PS. You don't need the breathalyzer kit either. When I mentioned it to our french Friends they laughed. It was proposed but not put into law. The proposal has now been dropped.

It was put into law after many delays to allow the BIL to actually produce the things, he never actually managed and the Chinese took the market, at that point the fine was reduced to zero :D

So it is still the law but with no penalty, the French are never very well up on these things, they just do as they are told.

Changing lights depends on which model you have.

The Mk2? Octavia could be switched by moving a lever on the back of the lights (mine was a 2008), the later model couldn't and I reverted to stickers.

Xenons can normally be done from the infotainment if it doesn't do it automatically.

AIUI the law for breathalysers is in place but there is no penalty for not carrying them,  I buy them in the supermarkets for about a euro (motoring sections).

If you are stopped it will be because that particular policeman/gendarme is bored and pedantic and will, accordingly check everything.  It is easier to be complaint and not give him the opportunity to delay you.

I have been stopped once for a breathalyser (6am on a Sunday) and almost stopped for a vehicle check but when they saw the UK plates they waved us through.

Cars sold in Europe have a flat beam pattern, so don't need to be adjusted.

My Porsche 718 has the low power xenons and they can't be adjusted for left or right traffic
