Simplest and cheapish Sat Nav for wife

Featured Replies

Jane can't do maps and is poor (like me ) with technology. She will be coming to join me at various obscure village cricket grounds around Worcester every weekend and will never find them.I am succumbing to a portable sat nav as the only solution.

Need the simplest, easiest to use Sat Nav.And I really mean simplest!

Most grateful. If cheap is out of the question,I understand:) .

I think that the cheapest ones are more complicated and the more expensive ones are far simpler, A friend of mine recently got a Navman from dixons for circa £110, i found it annoying to use and very small screen which was difficult to glance at when driving.

I have Tomtom on my PDA and only really put it in the car when i know i'm going to the unknown, but i really cant fault it, ease of use/high visibility, its got it all.

The question would be how much are you willing to spend on it? Cheap means different things to different people ;)

Cheryl has the Garmin Nuvi 350 and it is excellent, accurate and very intuitive. She uses it all the time and even uses it when walking round London.

This one has all of Europe, but they do the 300 which is only UK. It is very small and light (unlike the TomTom units) but is very easy to read. Also plays MP3s . If however you like the TomTom ones you can get the 700 (bluetooth etc) for about £200  Try www.globalpositioningsystems.co.uk they do very good reviews of the systems then search on the net for cheaper prices.

Garmin i3 is a very good little machine and can be had for less than a oner in some places by all accounts. Cheapest I have seen it is

We have Tom Tom 700...it's not the cheapest but t is very simple to use and works very well.

Prices for the whole TT range have recently come down as a new range has just been introduced....I highly recommend it.

As Obi said though...it's not the lightest or smallest but it is probably the best.....according to reports/reviews.

Adrian, the Nuvi 350 beats it :D And it actually fits in your pocket, not much bigger than a pack of king size ciggies

Read the reviews on the site I linked above.

I am going to replace my 3 year old one soon, I'll be getting the Nuvi with the TPMC add on, it re-routes you round traffic jams, which, with my mileage (50-60k per year) seems like a good investment

I have the TomTom 700, love its advanced features like the bluetooth handsfree, rerouting aroud jams etc.

However, for simplicity of use, if not price, I'd get a TomTom One or the Go 300. should be had for a decent price now the new line up is out, and its a simple as take it out the box and go. No complicated setting up, and the maps are spot on.

I've also heard good reviews about the Garmin kit. But I wouldn't go for something PDA based, I really couldn't get on with my HP Navigator, and ending up selling it for peanuts.

If however you like the TomTom ones you can get the 700 (bluetooth etc) for about

I'll see if I can find it again, I stored it on my machine at home, IIRC it was £225 +VAT with free delivery

TomTom One. Great little device, and you can add speedcamera details to it for nowt, too. Touchscreen, easy to use with very clear directions. Missus loves this software running on her Treo...

PC world are clearing out a load of sat nav systems at the moment , some at very good prices.

Well worth a look as the ones they had were cheaper than anywhere on the net

Most experts end up with the conclusion that the Tom Tom interface (similar on all thier products) is the easiest and most intuitive to use. I must admit I picked up and started using my Tom Tom easily without looking at the manual at all.

Thank you all.Thinking Tom Tom.Halfords have a Bank Holiday sale on with what look like bargains.

I see there is a vote for the Garmin i3.Any other coments? Is it worth paying another £150/£200 for the others?

Jane will simply be using the to and from destination,no other facilities like the jams etc
