Quick engine service question

Featured Replies

I have just changed the oil in my mk 1 same velocity 10w30 just different brands, the one before was idrive think theyre both fully synthetic other than the fact the 2000km interval between that made the idrive oil black, thought i was doing a good job other than the fact i didnt have a spare oil filter. now on to the problem I took it for a short journey 15 mins at 2500 revs and when brought it back a horrible buzzing/humming noise can be heard that is new, should i be concerned ? It got dark halfway through the oil change and spilled a drop but was sure to clean it up. Thanks for your input, have a great saturday, happy motoring

Was Just the alternator belt

Skrrrda- No criticism, just a comment, as one worthy poster has in his signature "Knowing your car's engine code (and maybe putting it in your profile or signature so people can see without asking) is a fantastic way of helping others to help you with your car. It's listed on the data sticker on the boot floor (and there may be a duplicate in the service book). If you can't work out which letters are the relevant ones, just pop up a photo of the sticker (obscuring the VIN if you're shy) and someone will tell you."

That reminds me that I should perhaps add my engine code to my profile, but as MK1 1.4TDi has one engine code ,I wonder if it's worth it.

There is a new field in profiles to add the car year as well. As I have.

At least 3 different engine codes for 1.4 TDIs in mk1 Fabia according to this document:

Engine codes.png

I always mention mine as an 04 model , MK1, but I've added the year to my profile and from document in last post, 04 ,1.4TDI is an AMF  . Haynes only gives AMF as engine in the 2000-2006 range ,which was the era of MK1 , ANYTHING after 2006 could be either BNV or BNM, but I'd suspect that the start letter "B" is indicitive of a new marque, known affectionately amongst MK 1 OWNERS AS "SPONGECAKES"( from the TV ADS)

Wrong again.

BNV and BNM are listed in the wiring diagrams as 'from November 2005'. Definitely mk1.

Lots of mk1 engines have codes starting with the letter B.

Wino- "from NOV 2005" =bnv/bnm. Mine is 2004 , Unless Haynes is flawed, AMF is 2004.

Sure, yours will be AMF, but you appeared to be trying to tell us on 28th Aug that any/every mk1 1.4 tdi had the same engine code, and on Sunday 30th that the other two engine codes I mentioned were only found in mk2s? (The spongecake reference meant nothing to me, but is that a description of mk2 Fabia?)

If you just put your engine code in profile or sig, there'd be nothing to discuss or work out. Seems strange that you tell others to do so, but neglect it yourself.
