Roof Bars

Featured Replies

Looking at investing in some cycle racks. Anyone running Yakima flush bars over the usual Thule bars. If so are you teaming them up with same brand racks or Thule. I'm very tempted at almost £80 less than the Thule offering.

I ran Whispbars on an Octavia (now branded Yakima) and they're pretty much fit and forget.  Quiet enough to leave on all the time and look fine if they match the rail colour.  They are limited to two bike racks unless the bikes are very small.  Fitting of some racks can be tricky due to the small gap between the roof and the bar.  I used Yakima forkchops and they only just squeezed in under the bars.

I've moved them over to my Mazda and they seem a little stretched.

I’ve used £30 ebay universal roof bars on my car for three years now.

I use them to transport kayaks regularly a few times a month and I’ve never had any issues. They clip on and off.

I take them off when not in use.

couldn't justify spending big money.

I use Yakima Aero bars on my estate with Thule 591s on T track fittings. Bars are pretty much silent, bike mount slides in and out quickly and easily. Generally leave the bars on.

I've had Yakima/Whispbars on both my Mk2 and Mk3 VRS estates.  The ones on the Mk2 had pretty heavy usage and did very well and were often left on for long periods as wind noise without a load is pretty much zero.  I've mainly used them with Thule bike carriers which I've had since I had Thule bars (branded as a Volvo accessory)  before my Skoda days)

I'd say the quality is comparable with Thule.   They aren't cheap, but they're cheaper than Thule

OK guys thanks for the feedback. Think I'll opt for whispbar kit in black of course with Thule 598s for the bikes. Just need to wait until they are back in stock now...
