Rear numberplate lights

Featured Replies

I have recently changed my rear numberplate lights to LEDs & when I tried to the lights on, I get a warning on the instrument cluster saying check numberplate lights.

I know that this is because the old bulbs drew 10w each & the new ones draw about 2w each so it thinks they have blown.

Does anyone know a way to stop this?

Tia,

Gareth.

You either need to get canbus friendly bulbs or code out the light checking with such as VCDS.

Ah right, thanks, will have a look

@GazzaCarlin I've got the same design as them in my sidelights without issues...

Didn't realise they fit the number-plate, I will have to try them.

I've been very lucky with my selection of led lighting as they can be hit and miss depending on the honesty of the seller or / and manufacturer.

Hmm, how strange!

Yes, they are the W5W type.

You can say that again!

I may have to but some more to test if I have a dodgy one

I will look see if the ones I've got are still in my 'purchased' list, but I sure they aren't. Bought ages ago.

Thanks

I had the same issue with a pair of LEDs that I put in.

Ended up buying these as entire replacement units and no faults so far:

I also got some complete replacement units for mine:

No errors and they look great. Really bright and a nice even light spread.

Cool, will have a look at them

The replacement unit ones are the way to go, and coding them properly allows them to be run without load resistors which is infinitely preferable.

How have you got on with these? Any errors at all ? I bought some "error free" ones which aren't.. Might get these.

I still had to put load resistors on! Other than that, they are nice and bright and easy to fit

Meine came with resistors too. So I fitted them anyway and they've been perfect with no errors. Lovely and bright but look factory fit as the light spread is very even.
