Turbo issues

Featured Replies

Hi all

have had the engine management warning light appear and been reset 3 times in the last12 months. Dealership suggested it could be a turbo issue but car has been running fine. Lately though have noticed the power isn’t really there . It’s a 2011 Skoda Fabia Estate 1.2 TSI DSG. Have been told by dealership that it’s potentially in need of a new turbo and have been advised may be £1000 plus.
is this realistic  and will it solve the lack of power. Would rather get it repaired than have to buy a new car if possible? Also is this a known fault ?
Thanks in advance and apologies for the lengthy post

Someone might be able to help in the Mk2 Fabia section.  A mod can move your post.

Potentially it could need a new turbo.  But potentially it could be just an actuator needed.

They can be sourced and fitted without needing a new turbo.

There are many threads over the years if you look for 'briskoda fabia mk2 1.2 tsi turbo actuator'  or similar keywords.

Many thanks will do that

Actuator problems are common on the 1.2 tsi

So the dealership garage has come back with a quote for£1300 for a new turbo. Apparently 3 technicians have all agreed that is the issue.
my query is ... apart from the engine light appearing there is no other symptoms. No smoking , no noises . Very reluctant to spend all that money if car is running fine .
my question is can I just keep driving and what’s the worse that can happen ?
Any advice greatly appreciated

? So what do these VW trained and qualified technicians or fitters actually say is wrong with the turbo that required replacing?  Has your car had the Turbo Shim TPI work, and did they check?   I would be going to a VW specialist for a diagnosis and swerving main dealers workshops and their 'change it and let's see after all it is only a customer's hard earned money!'.  ? Was an accuator replacement discussed?   Or is it really really a case of a complete unit turbo and accuator?
