DSG Stuck in 2nd gear

Featured Replies

A really odd thing happened to me last night.  Driving along as normal, stopped at traffic lights just before pulling onto a motorway.

Lights went green, went up the slip, ready to move through the gears but they stopped at 2nd.  Onto the motorway stuck in 2nd gear - tried putting it into manual, changing driving modes but no joy.  Nursed it along a bit, not revving too hard,  until I could stop on the hard shoulder.  Turned engine off and on again, pulled away then back to normal, changing gears no problem.  No lights on the dash whatsoever.

Back out this morning, have been driving all day and all is fine.  Car is actually driving great with 62000 miles on the clock.

A momentary glitch?   Anyone else had this?

I've got a service due in 700 miles so will get it checked out but just wondering if it's happened to anyone else.

Sounds like safe mode/limp mode. locks in lower gear to protect the box from harm. Sometimes caused by a sensor or solenoid issue. If so it will be in the stored faults file when codes are ran, even though it reset after a restart.

Thanks for that, I will get it checked out.

I had a similar thing on a Mk 2. It stuck in first from starting. Like you when i stopped and restarted all was well. It never reappeared and wasn't mentioned as a fault after a service. Good luck with it.
