Satnav voice guidance - A and B road numbers

Featured Replies

Noob here, but anyone find it odd that the way the Columbus SatNav lady says road numbers? I'd pronounce the A123 as "A one two three" and the B1234 as "B one two three four", but she says "A one hundred and twenty three", or "B one thousand two hundred and thirty four".

(Also she pronounces Shrewsbury the wrong way, as did I until I moved to Shropshire).

Depends which side of the river you live on in Shrowsbury dunnit?

The sat nav pronounces road numbers like Americans would, hence the A one hundred twenty three etc. - it did this on my previous Audi too, so I've just got used to this "foible".

Place names are pronounced phonetically not as locals would, other examples I know of that are pronounced very strangely are Bicester and Fareham.

I still love the way she can’t say Maidenhead. It’s May-hen-denhead 😊
