Rear hissing noise

Featured Replies

Octavia Estate 2.0l  diesel 2019

Walking to the rear of the car (exhaust area) while the engine is running, there is a 'hissing' noise. Anybody else out there hearing the same, is this normal & what is it?

Fuel pump?

There’s a snake in your boot, or you’ve got a puncture:)

Without attaching a video or sound file of what your hearing, your just going to get a lot of random guesses.

it's the air flowing through the exhaust

Ahhh, OK. Will get a sound file and upload it.

Get a rag and quickly block the exhaust for a second or two and see if the noise changes. If it does then maybe crawl under the car on your back and look for a leak, pinhole, bad joint etc. If it stays the same then open your fuel flap and see if its the breathers that are blocked, having just listened to your noise and having had a noisy fuel pump replaced a couple of weeks ago I dont think its that. It might be a projected noise that is coming from somewhere unconnected so get under the bonnet and everything

Thanks for that. Only bought the car at beginning of August. ( Main dealership) Just over 2000 miles now on 2019 plate so will have a word.

I assume the hissing is normal as my Octavia lll Estate 2.0 TDI  SE L 2018 has the same hissing when you listen at the back

don't worry, pretty normal. Mine is the same

Mine previous 2014 2.0 TDI also did that rear hissing noise from 0 to 270k km.

Thanks guys

I did crawl underneath for a better listen. The ''hiss' is actually coming from the exhaust pipes themselves. Not sure why though?

I did upload a sound file in earlier post.

Just seen Skoda King's post, saying it's the air flowing through the exhaust.
