Insurance company refusing to release proof of no claims as named driver...

Featured Replies

I've been driving under my Dad's name for seven years now with the same insurance company. I'm now looking to go under my own name and the company has given me a fairly hefty quote at

I'm pretty sure that most companies will only provide proof that the policy holder has the NCB. They certainly weren't interested when I got my own policy....

My problem is I don't have 'No Claims Bonus' as such... just seven years named driving experience with no incidents - and this is what the company need proof of :(

Perhaps the two companies can discuss this direct - or company 1 could fax a note to company two giving dates and info on driving experiance.

Direct Line seem to be good on named drivers these days, unless this is one of the companies above!

For the first few years, I just drove occassionally. Then I came back home a year ago and the insurance details were changed and listed myself as the main driver (but was still under dad's name).

Have you contacted your fathers insurance company for a quote? If not it may be worth a try - they may use their information for their own quote but not release details to another.

Other than that it might be worth asking on teh 5-ive 0 forum under the insurance section. There are motor insurance guys registered on the site who may offer advise.

Were you a named driver for 7 years or just for the most recent year? And has your Dad asked the company to provide the proof you need since it is his policy which is involved?

I would be inclined to contact them again and ask them to justify their 'company policy'. If they don't give way, tell them that a complaint will be made to the Financial Services Authority who regulate the financial services industry including companies providing car insurance. If you had a bad accident record, your Dad's insurer would be only too willing to share that information with other insurance companies!
