HID conversion kits - Interest?

Featured Replies

Yep, good point as well. Did you get the lights aligned properly when you fitted yours? If so, where did you go? Or was the alignment still fine when you switched to the HID setup?

No adjustmentt needed. Technically, all you are doing is changing the bulb. The HID kit I bought was more or less identical to the ones linked here. Once the ballast units and relay are fitted, that's about it.

However, you do have to alter the plastic cover on the back of the headlights so the new wires can pass through to the new bulb. I drilled a couple of holes and once the wires were through, added some silicon sealer to the back to ensure a nice watertight seal! The existing retainer clips held the new bulb in place exactly the same wasy they did with the original halogen bulb!

I also heard that they won't fail an MOT as the regs regarding auto levelers etc apply to factory fitted Zenon lights only. But, as mentioned above, it is only a couple of minute job to put the original bulbs back in.

One other point though, if you are using a relay to fire them up (This came with my Kit) then only one of the original headlight bulb connections is used! This means the car will show a ''Bulb Out'' warning on the dash. I kept meaning to have a look around to see how to avoid this but never got round to it! The other option is to switch that warning off using vag-com!

I bought the 6000k (hint of blue and very bright) bulbs and there are fantastic, can't recommend them enough, I paid

Thanks for the extra info - very useful. Interesting about the Bulb Out warning as well

A purchase is imminent, I can feel it :D

What would be needed to trick the bulb check?

What other bulbs are covered by the check?

I suppose something that allowed the circuit to be completed on the two bulb connectors? The most likely 'real-world' solution is just to disable the bulb check on VAG-COM! Anyone know where the setting will be located?

At the moment, after a couple of seconds after switching the lights on the bulb out warning comes on.... switch it to daylight bulb setting (or off) and the warning light goes out again! Doesn't really trouble me but when I put it through an MOT, I will use vag-come to switch the warning off...hopefully!

The HID conversion on my car looks way brighter than the Zenons on SWMBO's VRS that were fitted as standard. For driving round the streets with decent lighting, I set the leveler to 2 or 3 and to 1 for motorways or poorer lit roads..... don't want to blind anyone :D

Well I've just asked the question in our VAG-COM section, here

Fingers crossed, as it will annoy me having the warning light on when using them!

Yeah.... I Know you can switch off the washer liquid low, seat belt & Brake pad low warning lights.... thought it might be around there but couldn't see anything :(

one way to stop the bulb blown warning light from coming on would be to fit a diode in parralel with the hid ballast unit, as this would confuse the ccs unit into thinking that there is a bulb plugged into the original loom.

Right quick update I can definately do them for £110. Postage should be able to be included in that. It all depends on Her Maj's finest when the boat comes in.... I will do them as cheap as i can. I am going to try and get a group buy set up so we can sort some names who want them for sure.

Matt

I'll be interested in the GB in a few weeks time. I've been looking at a kit from a supplier I've used before which comes in at £120, but finances are screwed atm so having to be patient :(

Random award of the day....?

Hi,

I'm interested in this, I have a couple of questions thought.

1) Will these kits fit a 53 Octavia

2) A friend of mine is also interested for his Seat Leon Mk1

1. Yes

2. Yes

There's a range of different bulb fitments available. All the supplier will need is what type of dipped beam the car has - H1, H7 etc etc.

HTH,

Steve

Ok, thanks for that.

1 other question, how do I find out what type of dipped beam the car has?:o

RTFM! :D

For the benefit of other members, how's about a list of all the bulbs in each model?
