Spaceback

Featured Replies

Just a little thread on my Spaceback and the mods I’m completing if anyone needs any links or assistance in how I done anything etc, feel free to ask.

I've got a 2017 1.2 TSI (110) Spaceback, which I bought nearly a month ago now from a Skoda dealership, FSH etc. I had a plan of mods I wanted to do, nothing to over the top. Just to increase the sportiness and aggressiveness of the car. I come from a 2009 Ford Fiesta which I had for 4.5 years and done me extremely well.

the modifications I want to complete are as follows:

- replace chrome grille surround  with black ‘Monte Carlo’ surround.

- add wind deflectors

- add custom mats

- change ‘yellow’ lights to Xenon effect bulbs

- private plate installation

- front splitter

- maybe a remap in the future (I’m happy with output atm)

- lowering springs (if I come across well priced set)

I will attach some photos as I attempt to progress through the list. Some of the mods have already been done and I will update the post ASAP!

Sounds good. I have a 2016 SE Sport. So far I have done the following if you need inspiration.

Dash Cam

Soft close grab handles

OEM reverse camera with washer

OEM Bonnet insulation

Monte Carlo D Shape steering wheel

Coded needle sweep

Original USB ports in rear of armrest

Retractable bumper cover

Rubber matts and rear tunnel cover

Boot mat

Spare wheel kit

Hooks on both sides of the boot

Plastic compartments on both side of the boot

First aid kit in strap above wheel

arch

Warning Triangle in the space below boot lip.

Mudflaps

Washer bottle top to rubber with built in funnel

I have the OEM parts ready to add the following when I get a moment.

ambient lighting under dash and rear seats

Light assist / Rain wipers

Speed limiter function

Springs in rear brakes- not sure what improvement they will bring. Something to do with making the handbrake less likely to stick

Forgot to add I also have the grill which will be installed to cover the heater hole under the bonnet which leaves the motor exposed to leaves etc.

Sorry about such a delayed response!

Good list that I can take some ideas from. The bonnet isolation, does it provide any benefits? Also, how did you code in the needle sweep, did you buy one of those devices you plug into the port inside the car? Finally, the light assist what is that?

I bought some mats from eBay which were £20. They fit perfectly into the pins that are existing in the car and came very quickly, proper bargain.

@1874joe If you upload the photos in a format such as jpg then the thread will automatically show them without any need for downloading.

In fact, if you were to actually do that I'd remove the previous post and photos so as to not affect your storage quota.

Hi there, the needle sweep I coded using    ODB11. Iv found it quite useful on the whole but I think I will buy the RossTech VCDS cable soon as long coding is a bit hairy in ODB11.

I added the bonnet insulation because it looked like there was something missing. I hoped the engine might warm a bit quicker in the winter and it might be a bit quieter but in all honesty I’d be lying if I said I had noticed any improvement. But it does look better when the bonnet is up :)

Sorry forgot to add that light assist is basically auto lights. Mine is an SE Sport but i got it about a year old so it didn’t have all the options I would have wanted on there so I have been researching, gathering parts and installing them myself.  Iv found it hard with the Rapid as not many about.

I really want the false boot floor but have had to lower my spending after my wife had an accident in the other car.

Id be interested to see what it is like on lowered springs. I find the ride a b too harsh as it is. Too many pot holders round here.

Oh okay, that's the same with mine. I would like to get the SmartLink for Apple CarPlay, but not prepared to pay £150 for the activation key! To code in the needle sweep etc, do I actually have to be able know any coding or am I able to select certain options or choices etc on the device? I agree with you parts are hard to come by as they are pretty rare to be fair!

ODB11 has built in apps you can use but i don’t use them as i worry about what it might change without me knowing. I just look up how to do it online and then change the relevant values but you have to be sure on what you’re doing before you change anything.

I looked into the activation key and like you i decided i wasn’t paying the money. I’m not sure i’d use either.

I have been buying from an online place called Cloverdale parts and they have been brilliant at helping me order the right parts.

I use a russian forum called drive2 which is excellent for retrofitting stuff to the Rapid. They are really helpful but you will need a translator installed.

Cheers

I will take a look into that then.

Maybe as time goes on I may decide to get an activation key as I would use it and do like the look of the interface on CarPlay.

Have you bothered changing the 'yellow' lights to xenon effect ones, or have you kept them the same?

I will check out that forum, thanks for all the info

I haven’t changed the yellow lights yet but would like to.  I was considering swapping the actual light units for the later ones with the LED side lights. But need to confirm they will fit and work yet.
