Haldex service on Yeti

Just put a deposit down on my first Yeti (2017 2.0L 4x4 TDI Outdoor SE L with 35k miles) from a Skoda dealer who says the Haldex service has been done, though i've not seen the paperwork yet. 

Having read up on here I'm aware that the Haldex service was originally set by Skoda at 40k miles, but has now been brought forward to 30k miles/3 years, however the Skoda dealers don't normally acknowledge that the gauze/sieve requires cleaning, so I can't confirm if that has ben done or not.

 

I know owners typically get charged around £100 for the service, so for peace of mind I've set about ringing two local independent VAG garages to get it booked in, and they are giving me conflicting advice....

 

Garage 1 says it doesn't need doing until 40k miles and they charge about £100 for the oil change and sieve clean. 

Garage 2 acknowledges the shorter 30k mile period, but charges £220+vat as instead of cleaning the sieve they replace the unit (this was a price off the top of his head and she's finding out the exact price for me).

 

My preference is garage 1, but it's strange how the info differs between Skoda and the different indie garages, and also when compared to owners experiences. 

 

 

The Service Interval was quoted at Main Dealership for Skoda @ 4 years / 40,000 miles while VW were saying 3 years, then 30,000 miles.

Then some Skoda Dealerships started to say @ Service Desks '@ 3 years'  regardless of miles.

 

It is much as with Cam Belts.  Pick a number any number, pick a price any price, and do not include Filters that many say are not required.

 

It is a farse.

Agreed. I think I just need to take it somewhere who will actually carry out the requested work, regardless of whether they think it should be done.

You do.  But they need to be competent and you should not need to tell them how to do it.

Fitting a new pump every 30K miles sounds like a nice little earner.

My dealer quoted 70 for oil change and 120 for oil change plus filter wash.  Car is 3 years old but only 23,000 miles

£69 was the price @ Participating Dealerships until the price went to £79 and some might well charge less.

Yeti are a still a good cross-over.

 

You can't replace the filter on later Yetis as it is part of the design, it does need opening and cleaning though.

I would ask for before and after photos to prove it has been done as easy not to bother, and just change oil..

You could replace it as it is just screwed on, but, normally, a clean will make it as new.  My garage videoed it after cleaning, but not before !!!!  Grrrr!

Dear Ken,

does this apply to Gen5 traction systems as well as the 6th. I think in prudence the experts should explain. We all need our cars to have some form of safety, comfort and longevity.

The Gen 6 Haldex will be first fitted to the Mk8 Golf. It's not relevant to Yetis of any age.

The filter is a plastic mesh on the fifth generation Haldex.  Volvo have a part number for it but it just needs to be 'washed' clean.

Well I'm quite surprised by the different responses from the four local indie VAG specialists I've contacted asking about the Haldex service on the Yeti..

 

Garage 1 - says it doesn't need doing until 40k miles and they charge about £100 for the oil change and sieve clean.

Garage 3 - had to go and ask someone and then said they would have to remove and have a look at the pump and see whats involved in cleaning it, before they can tell me a price

 

Just as I was loosing the will to live I went to the remaining specialist in my town...

 

Garage 4 - the bloke stopped me halfway through asking and said "You need the Haldex oil changing and gauze cleaning, we can do that. We'll also gove your Yeti a once over while tits still under their used car warranty"

 

So I'll be going with garage 4

FYI...I was quoted   every three years or 60,000 miles which ever comes first by customer services at Skoda UK. Other main dealers say now 30K miles for manual drive and 40K miles for DSG[Automatic !!] excuse my ignorance, I was only listening to the subject matter experts [ SME ] for my terrible experience of a cracked Haldex and diff  issues.

 

Let me know how garage 4 of their performance

@John@C   The 60,000 mile bit was and is rubbish.

The 3 years / 36 months is correct, but going over 30,000 miles without servicing the Haldex is risky.

 

The 40,000 miles is about the DSG oil change and nothing to do with the Haldex.

I'm picking up my Yeti from the Skoda dealer at the end of the month. It's a 2017 Yeti 2.0L 4x4 DSG with 35k miles.

Whilst they say it's had all its services done, as well as the Haldex service, they couldn't confirm if the gauze was checked. Not wanting to take any chances I'll be getting it booked in at the indie garage within a few days of picking it up for the Haldex service and gauze clean, and the DSG oil changed. Might even get them to do an engine oil change whilst they have it. I'd rather start off my ownership knowing that everything has been done.

Dear Dale,

 

the Yeti is still a fantastic vehicle to drive...I would only say enjoy it and listen to your car noises, return to the dealer if you feel there is something not quite right. Extended warranty is your option to consider, covering all components.

Thanks, I know it will come with 12 months Skodas 'approved used car warranty', but I expect they will try to wriggle out of any claim, just like any other dealer. I think they invite yo to extend the warranty just before it runs out. It also comes with breakdown cover (which I already have) and 5 days insurance so I don't need to get cover myself straight away, but I think I'd rather have my own cover for peace of mind.

 

This may sound strange, but at nearly 50yrs old this is the first tome I've eve bought a car from a dealer, I've always gone private.

Ironically doing nothing means the worst that could happen is that the 4x4 will not engage when needed and many owners would not even realise, the pump may have been overworked and need replacing, or you just carry on driving your now FWD only vehicle perhaps in blissfull ignorance.

 

Being responsable and taking charge of the sitution opens you up to the risk of a mechanic who is undiscerning about which holes he uses :o and the subsequent bid for freedom of shrapnel through the diff case, a £4.5K repair bill & possibly months of inspections, engineers reports and legal proceedings.

Could you expand on that last bit please? Which plugs could they remove by mistake , and what could realistically happen If they do?

The Car can be a Skoda Approved Used car with FMDSH and a Skoda warranty for 12 months or 24 months with a current offer, 

but FMDSH (Full Main Dealer Service History.) does not mean Serviced to the Manufacturers Guidelines or Recommendations.  

As in it can be 3 year or older and not had the Brake Fluid changed.

 

The Skoda Warranty is available when needed and without Skoda UK CS's coming with their offer.  They often do though.

Hadn't though of that, I shall try and find out if it has been done.

 

Although its supposed to have had FMDSH, If you were picking up my 3 year old Yeti with 35k miles, what would you like to ensure had been done, or to get done?

 

Haldex oil & clean?

DSG oil?

Brake fluid?

Engine oil?

 

I'd probably prefer the Skoda dealer to carry out any servicing (instead of local indie) incase of any issues under warranty, but seeing as they don't usually acknowledge the gauze being cleaned....

Just ask the Sales Person you are dealing with to send you a copy of the Service & Warranty history for the car.

 

If the full servicing has been done and they say it is done then the FDSH should tell all.

Is the servicing as per Manufacturers Schedule and is the Brake Fluid change done.

 

The DSG oil change is not due until 40,000 miles and that is the same for the Fuel Filter. 

The Air Filter might not be due until 40,000 miles and some now say 60,000, so at least it should be checked, so check yourself and see if clean & dry.

The Pollen filter change was due at 2 years then again in 2 years.

I'll call them tomorrow and ask if they can email the service history to me. I've only put a small deposit down, balance to pay on collection, so I don't know if they will send it as I haven't effectively bought the car yet, but I will ask.
